San Luis Creek Lodge

This was my 3rd time to stay here and it is consistently a charming and great experience. I’ll be back next month!

Nice staff, wonderful morning pastries, and nice attention to high end snacks and drinks in the room.

I used to really enjoy staying here but it’s no longer well managed. Each of the three days I stayed here I was locked out of my room after the room keys quit working. Then, one day I spilled some water on the floor, only to discover that the floors in both the room and bathroom were filthy (the towel I used to wipe up the water was black afterwards). San Luis has a lot of hotel options available, there’s really no excuse for what I experienced at the San Luis Creek Lodge.

San Luis Creek Lodge Good and Bad!! The good - San Luis is a lovely place. The rooms are lovely, spacious and clean (although my friends room had some stains on the sheets). Its ideally placed for walking into town. Loved the aesop toiletries. Overall a lovely place. The bad - check in was at 3 and we arrived at 4 to be told our rooms werent ready (we had 2 rooms) - a lady arrived after us and her room was ready! The man on reception said it would be an hour and to go and have something to eat. I told him we didnt want to eat as we had book food for later! He didnt look impressed. So we said we would go and find somewhere for a drink. $70 and an hour later we returned - our rooms now ready - 2 HOURS LATE - not impressed after paying a premium more than 6 months ago and travelling thousands of miles!! Then in the room we only had one coffee bag so asked for more to be told they had run out! We were not impressed as its not cheap to stay there. He just said you get coffee delivered in the morning. (We wanted a cuppa in the evening!) That said - nice coffee and a couple of pastries are delivered in the morning to your door. We were offered a bottle of fizzy wine for the delay - I dont like wine!!! Not impressed with the service - they are apparently going to refund us £15 (havent seen this yet!) The delay cost us way more. Overall a lovely place but bad service for us. Disappointing.

As someone in hospitality, I appreciate thoughtful service and well-executed details—but I’m also particularly sensitive to missteps. My recent stay had several standout moments, but also a few disappointments. The hotel is charming, with a boutique aesthetic. Our room was clean, with nice water pressure, and luxurious bathroom amenities. The front desk staff was friendly, and I appreciated the convenience of text-based communication. One of the loveliest touches was the morning delivery of a thermos of coffee and pastries hung on our door. Unfortunately, we didn’t know this was part of the experience and only discovered it as we were leaving. Had we known, we would’ve enjoyed it more leisurely. Where they fell short: A laundry cart remained outside our room during our entire stay, which detracted from the overall presentation. The room was dark, even in the afternoon. Though our room overlooked the SLO creek, there was no balcony or seating area to enjoy the view. Indeed there was no comfortable place to relax other than the bed, which made it hard to unwind. There was an ice machine, but no accessible water source. When we asked at the front desk, we were directed to a local mini mart. A water dispenser in the lobby or near the ice machine would have helped. Ultimately the biggest dealbreaker was the noise. I could hear every footstep from the room above and every conversation outside. Unfortunately, that lack of sound insulation made restful sleep impossible.

Lovely large room with super comfy bed. Would have preferred a true continental breakfast rather than just a couple of meh pastries delivered at 7am. Coffee was good! Love the overall decor of this property! We highly recommend!

Absolutely love the San Luis Creek Lodge. We were looking for an in between of a luxury hotel and the smaller motel/inns and found this one. It's perfect with great room amenities, and a chic design. We also love that there is free parking, and we don't need to valet for every in and out trip.
