"Don't waste your money"

2.0

My husband and I just needed a one night get away. We wanted to try a new B&B than our usual one. We were so disappointed, and here is why: no one greeted us when we arrived, just an envelope with our key and to follow the directions to find our room; no thermostat in the room, it had to be at least 75 degrees, way too hot to sleep; the bed in our room was incredibly tall, I had to pull a chair over to the bed to get on it, there was no foot stool; our room was a basement room, just yuk!; no tissue box anywhere; dirty medicine cabinet; disgusting shampoo/conditioner/body was dispenser in the shower; skivvy looking toothbrush holder attached to outside of the shower; mold along the shower pan; absolutely no place to put my "stuff"...hair brush, curling iron, makeup bag since there is a pedestal sink in the bath, but plenty of room to add a small table; 2 of the 3 lights over the sink were out; furniture was dirty; no iron or board; mold spot on the ceiling in living room of our suite; room was run down; the entire building is run down; and breakfast, well what can I say....pre-packaged muffins, bread in bread bag next to a toaster, and I could make a waffle, expired bottle of orange juice, filthy coffee dispensers, hanging plants that shed their leaves all over the floor and over the breakfast tables. I asked if I could have 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast and was told they haven't had eggs for 2 years and they are not allowed to cook. Really??? If you wanted to drink alcohol in your room, you need to buy it from the B&B, since the notice in our room clearly states no outside liquor and if the authorities find out, there is a $1,000 fine. WTH, is this a Maryland thing??? The only good thing I can say is the shower water pressure was great. I highly recommend our usual B&B, only 30 minutes away, which is Miller Dunham Bed and Breakfast in Odessa Delaware, you won't be disappointed there!

Very amazing stay. Clean and fancy but the service was the best. The owner went above and beyond trying to accommodate us and gave nothing less then his best. We will definitely come back soon.

"Better to Avoid"

2.0

We stayed in the Surrey Room above the garage. While we never saw any rooms in the main house, the Surrey Room was a dump. Awful moldy smell, rotting door threshold, random, mis-matched Goodwill furniture, broken kitchen drawers, no Kleenex, burnt-out lights, a bathroom door that didn’t close, broken window frame, bugs everywhere. The breakfast was awful. Exactly what you’d expect at a Motel 6 but not at a full-price B&B. A badly neglected property guaranteed to disappoint. Avoid.

"With just a little more effort..."

4.0

Elk Forge Inn has potential to be a great B&B, but the hosts are not very hospitable, the place is looking rather haggard, and the breakfast is really poor quality. It is an expensive Inn, so one would expect a much nicer stay. It's a beautiful old home and nicely furnished in general, but everything is a bit run down. Chipped furniture in the rooms, low quality linens, window treatments sagging, shriveling plants and cheap vinyl tablecloths in the breakfast room. The breakfast was especially bad -- boxed cereal, "hostess" twinkies in their plastic wrapping (I am NOT making this up), no interesting fresh fruit (no melon, berries, etc. just apples, oranges, bananas like a Motel 6!) and most egregious--weak tasteless coffee.

"Massage at Spa "

4.0

I booked a 75 minute massage treatment and even though the masseuse was excellent I would not go back. I was tempted to ask her if she worked at another spa so I could book her elsewhere. As I walked downstairs to the massage room I was greeted with a pungent smell of damp, musty and moldy odor. I suspect they had some flooding in the spa “basement” and never removed the carpets for cleaning, it was so bad that I told her I couldn’t stay I would have an asthma attack during my massage. She told me her area was further back and it didn’t smell too bad back there. I followed her in the next room and I agreed it wasn’t as bad as the first room, so I stayed, I really felt bad for her having to work under those conditions. How embarrassing! Normally I would have loved the basement feel, it was like being in a cuddle cave. Too bad they didn’t address the flood issue. I won’t be back because I still can’t get that smell out of my nose!!! Honestly, a phone call to me prior to my apt telling me that they had to cancel my apt do to maintenance issues would have been the proper thing to do. So disappointed, it says so much about the establishment. I gave two stars for the masseuse, otherwise the review itself would have been below one.

"Not what we expected"

6.0

I imagine this property used to be magnificent. But it hasn’t been kept up. We stayed in the Coach Carriage House with friends. There was such a gap under the front door that bugs kept coming in. And the wooden decks were in disrepair. We were hoping to sit outside but the furniture was covered with mildew. We walked the paths which were nice. No kcups, no soap in the shower, no paper towels in the kitchen. Definite lack of amenities. We never saw an employee while we were there. Hopefully they will bring it back to its former splendor.

"False advertising"

2.0

My college-aged daughter booked a single nights stay with a spa package. After booking, the owners contacted her and said that the spa was unavailable, so she asked to cancel the reservation. She was then informed that she was within the 10 day refund window. They refunded the spa costs, but would not refund the nights stay ($147). I called to explain that the whole reason for the stay was a couples spa and night out as a birthday gift, and since they couldn’t provide the advertised package, she wanted to go elsewhere. I was even willing to pay the $30 cancellation fee. They did not go, we’re charged the nights stay, and still received the somewhat insulting, automated ‘Thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed your stay” email. So, this is the first negative review I’ve ever written on TripAdvisor, and I don’t want to, but…. I travel a lot, and as a rule, try to stay at the small mom and pop B&Bs. I understand that a cancellation effects them much more than a large chain. But if you advertise a service, which results in a booking, and then can’t provide that service, you should refund the entire booking. Otherwise, this is just false advertising and theft.

"Romantic bed and breakfast"

8.0

Overall nice place for a short stay. Our room (Baltimore) was nice. Shower a little rough shape but works fine and everything clean). Covid breakfast really hurts the bed and breakfast experience but obviously not their fault. Grounds nice but could use a power washing. Never met the host again covid safe. House itself I loved. Old and romantic.
