Club Wyndham Inn on the Harbor

On the official website they advertised two room types on the website, harbor view and city view, at different prices. My reservation was specifically for a harbor view room. When I arrived at the hotel to check in, they put me in a city view room and indicated that no harbor room view rooms were available because owners were staying there. The manager said that I had to call for a refund because he couldn't give any refunds. I left and went to another hotel. While on my way, my wife called the number the manager gave us and was then directed to another number. That person agreed to give a refund (after half an hour) and actually said that they don't advertise specific room types, which simply isn't true (I have screen shots and the reservation confirmation email). It also advertises "Beach Access" but it is in the middle of a marina with no sand or swimming area nearby. About a week after my failed check in, I actually got a call from Wyndham customer service apologizing and saying that the refund usually takes a few days so I should keep looking and expect it soon. The refund still hasn't arrived after a month. In the meantime, I also disputed the charge with Amex, and the hotel claimed to Amex that I cancelled or actually stayed in the room, it's hard to tell which. I've never stayed in a Wyndham before, and I don't think I ever will.

The location of the hotel is perfect! Right on Thames Street and the water. There is parking underneath the hotel. The room itself was spacious for what we needed. In our 1-bedroom, you walk in and immediately you are in the bedroom, followed by a small kitchen and living area. We were very lucky and given a room across from the lounge. My 6-year old loved it and kept going back and forth. Shuffleboard, large Jenga, and large Connect 4 are available. There is a full kitchen available to use in the lounge. There is a little bar/restaurant on the bottom floor (not affiliated with the hotel) that was very convenient since we traveled in the bitter February weather. There isn't a pool on site. However, you could use the local YMCA pool. The problem is, you need the front desk to call first to see if the pool was available. We didn't want the hassle of calling, driving, and then driving back all wet so we passed. We did encounter some issues while there. For one, I turned on the hot water to wash dishes and it was the color of coffee. Same with the sink in the bathroom and shower. We let it run for about 5-10 minutes and it was still brownish yellow. I called maintenance and they said it was because the water had been stagnant for a little while. Someone came up to fix the bathroom sink but it didn't alleviate the hot brown water. Cold water was fine though.

We enjoyed our stay at Club Wyndham on Thames Street. We liked our Suite. We would stay again on another trip to downtown Newport. We were thankful for the free parking offered also.

Great location and friendly staff!! My only complaint is NO BATHTUB When I booked, the room description said bath or shower. I requested bath but was told NO TUBS in the entire hotel. They need to change room descriptions! Otherwise, love it.. Fun bar also

This was a fantastic place to stay. It was right in the middle of the haps of Newport. They had free parking and the room has an absolutely incredible view. It was more like a studio apartment than a hotel room.
