Just back from this hotel, so here's a review.
This hotel has so many good points and some that, if changed, would make it a great resort.
Firstly, the staff, I cannot say how much we appreciated their kindness and "above and beyond" attitude. Puza (the waitress was especially kind to us). Nothing was a problem, and always happy to help. Always very clean, and honestly, they were always cleaning, food spills, drinks dropped, robot pool cleaners and room staff, everything was a 24/7 operation. Rooms cleaned daily, but glasses, cups, etc not washed.
If you're researching this hotel, you have probably noted the comments about the all-inclusive food and drinks package. We ate in the hotel most days but had a few trips to Chania's old town and ate out....Cretian Wine is not represented well in the hotel.
So breakfast from 6-10 am, good variety of hot food (fried/scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, etc), cold food was traditional continental with meats and cheese, breads and pastries, and always the Greek salad option (tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, feta and olives!) The snack bar also had crepes freshly made with chocolate sauce.
After 10 am, the snack bar (and beer on tap) was open with fresh sandwiches (olive bread, baguette with feta and tomatoes was great, could also take ham/cheese and grill in a panini press if so desired), always had freshly made popcorn and a self-serve Mr Whippy ice cream machine! There were times when the snack bar also opened (most of the day, between breakfast and dinner, shut for a few hours) that served traditional Greek souvlaki (pork kebab in a wrap with yoghurt salad and chips....very yummy)
Lunch was a variety of salads/hot foods. Dinner always had a theme night, so Mexican/Asian/Greek/Cretian, etc, but the food was all good, some very good (I remember the cuttlefish being spectacular)
The all-inclusive drinks package is where things let this hotel down. It's not all bad, the local beer was very good, but the wine on tap was not the best, and the only spirits available from the bar were gin/vodka/tequilla/rum/raki/ouzo/brandy. (all local products, and sadly not the best. If I could suggest to the hotel, the main upgrade would be to make the wine as good as your local produce allows. Cretian wine is lovely, so please don't buy the cheap stuff.... perhaps include some prosecco on the AI also?
Lastly, the swimming pool beds, I was sad that I had to get out of bed at 6 am (I'm on holiday for .... ) to put my towel down on a few beds close the the pool or with a shade. I don't like doing it, it goes against my grain and I don't see why we have to, but even at 6 am, 3/4 of the beds had already been taken, especially the beds around the pool edge that people didn't turn up to until midday.... Perhaps a policy for the hotel would be to implement a 'reserve bed policy' like other hotels? In fairness, there were lots of sunloungers available, just no shade, as all the umbrellas were fixed to the floor. Perhaps a few moveable umbrellas would have been helpful?
Would I return? Yes....with more adventures outside for the local wine, which is brilliant, just not here....sorry!
