Kingston Lodge Hotel

Very tired and run down, rooms not clean to a reasonable standard, showers not clean ( hairs left there for last guest ). All in all a million miles away from a 4 star hotel, £150 was ridiculously steep.

The parking was good and location ok. The staff were friendly and helpful. However this is not a 4 star hotel. The room was dirty, bedside lamps not working, ripped and torn curtains, the dining room was appalling, clearly needs a refurb.

Room clean, comfortable and quiet - was perhaps not as modern as some might like but I was fine with that. Bath seemed to have a leak (but I only worked that out on the last day as I thought I had got the shower curtain wrong!) However, could do with slightly fuller pillows - they were a bit thin. Breakfast was fine - although they could do with sorting out the rotary toaster as it was very slow (took 4 passes through to get proper toast). Major annoyance as a resident was lack of parking on the 2 days when events were on at hotel and I had to find alternative on a local street - as I'm not familiar with Kingston that was not so easy. As a resident I should be able to park outside. This would be annoying if you were arriving to check in with luggage (I wasn't on either day when I had to park elsewhere). It's an easy 15 minute walk down to Kingston proper - just beware the hill on the way back if you're not fit. It's not that steep but it is a long climb.

I found the staff and speed of checking in, out, excellent. The car park was full had to park in an unofficial bay.

I liked that it has been there a long time and we were ok with the somewhat quirky plumbing and pipe thumping. But the place should not advertise to the point that a stay there is somewhat disappointing. The heat was stuffy in the public area and bar. We had a hard time finding our room down in the basement, which was unexpected. No one had the courtesy to show us and we wandered up and down stairs carrying all of our luggage till we finally figured it out . Reception seemed uninterested in our jet lagged confusion with their directions. The bar staff did try to be accommodating and were polite and considerate. The breakfast was frustrating. Hot coffee had to be asked for at the kitchen door, no decent salt and pepper on the tables, eggs almost cold every day. Service pretty scant and indifferent. Gloomy mood in that place. Did not want to try any other meals there we were so put off by the breakfast and the service. Our room in general was a bit shabby and the room advertised a double and a single bed. We instead got a decent double bed but they installed a temporary cot for the single and it was not a good option. A cot is not a decent bed. I was surprised that the hotel did not have anything of its history for interesting reading. Also the photo advertised on Expedia showed it as a lovely grand old place but the view eliminated that the place actually fronts the parking lot and is right on the road. We would not recommend anyone to stay there.

Nice, cozy hotel, free parking. Room was a bit cold and air conditioning unit was noisy.
