The Carlton Hotel, Atascadero, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Our assigned room was already used. Put in lesser room .there were 3 of us for deluxe 2 queen beds. Was given king room with unforgettable roll away bed. Manager Melanie)was to contact me for compensation. Never heard called no answer.

So many problems. We were literally given keys to a room that someone else was in! There are no secondary locks on the doors. The mattress was so mushy and worn out. It was a very restless night.

The hotel was under construction to a Marriott property. The elevator made a scary scrap-y sound. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. No amenities. No bottled water available. We had stayed years ago snd it was charming snd lovely. Now you felt like it was in need of care We were disappointed

It’s a nice hotel but lots of construction going on. The room was very basic. AC didn’t work in our room so it was a little hot/humid. Bathroom vent didn’t work either. The town itself is charming though!

We were first given keys and when we opened our door, there was a person and his dog inside sleeping. He jumped up and yelled and I stepped back and apologized profusely! I was so shocked that I was shaking for like an hour afterwards. The next room smelled really strongly of paint. The courtyard doors did not lock properly, nor was there a secondary lock on the entry door, it was not fully furnished and the smoke detectors were still wrapped in plastic, it also did not have a bathtub..which we had paid for a room with a tub. We were moved yet again to a room with a tub and the bed was horrendous. The bed was at a deep slant where I had to sleep with my head where feet go because the blood was rushing to my head. It was also very mushy and had a huge dip in the center. We just dealt with it because it was late and we didn’t want to change rooms for a fourth time. We spoke to the girl at the front desk in the morning and basically got shrugged at. We understand renovations, but basic comfort and safety should still be adhered to.

Walk to good eats and drinks. Classic hotel feel. I was traveling between wine stops and this is a great stop.

Loved the historical feel of the property and the room. Staff was over the top friendly and helpful.

Inconvenient parking. The parking lot is located several doors away and across the street. Loading in front of the hotel has space for about 3 cars at a time.
