Excellence Riviera Cancun - Adults Only All Inclusive

Fantastic, relaxing getaway for my wife and I! Positives: -All staff were amazing. Very helpful and attentive. -Transfer to and from airport was prompt and professional. -The property is older, but it didn't bother us at all. The amount of staff around constantly fixing, cleaning, serving, etc. was truly impressive. -Bars open at 10am. By 10:02am every day, a waitress was making rounds taking drink orders. Very impressed. -The steak at the Grill restaurant was terrific! Enjoyed other restaurants as well. Orders at every restaurant came out quickly. -Drinks were good. Bartenders were fast and knowledgeable. -The crowd is a bit older. Not really the young, party vibe. But that was totally fine for the trip we were aiming for. -Extremely pretty resort. So well manicured. -So many pool options. Towels and chairs always available. -My wife said this was the best spa experience she's ever had!! -Room was very nice and spacious, and the air conditioner actually worked (something I've learned is hit-or-miss at many Cancun resorts). MINOR negatives: -The nighttime entertainment wasn't the greatest. We've been to several all inclusives in Cancun and other Caribbean destinations. The nighttime entertainment here was average, at best. -The fitness center is small. It only hold perhaps 15 people comfortably. Recommend expanding it to at least double it's current size. -Lots of seaweed on the beach, but it's not the fault of the resort. It's just Cancun. I have to respect the seaweed cleanup efforts, though. We prefer the pools over the beach anyway. Would definitely go back!!

Although the resort is impressive, I felt like other resorts capture the elegant vibe better than Excellence. As this is a small resort, you are at the whim of the person who controls the volume button. Many days the volume was cranked, even at the lazy river by the spa area. Some guests draped towels over speakers to minimize the volume - even "relaxing spa music" can be not-relaxing at max volume as we found out. The same with the evening entertainment. There were times when the volume was so loud, there was a significant amount of feedback from the speakers. And as this is a smaller resort, even the rooms at the back of the resort were affected even with all doors and windows closed. The food was excellent, although it was a challenge to find food I could eat, as I am allergic to shrimp and shellfish - a few restaurants were amazing, but the majority had only 1 non-seafood option, if anything at all. We've been to lots of other resorts, and I've never had this much trouble finding something great that I want to order. The rooms were very nice, however the beds were hard as rock. Certainly not the "pillow top" we were expecting as they advertise. We checked, and there is indeed a pillow top - it's just as hard as the floor. All the people in our group experienced this - by the end, we all had hip pain, and we're no where near an age when that should be a thing yet. In the end, I probably won't go to this resort again. I felt like other resorts we have stayed at have wowed me more than this one.

Literally they put aspartame in all their drinks, and the food is slop for prisoners. Stay in the US.

The night entertainment is so loud (in your room) that you cannot sleep until it finishes. If you want to rest and relax, don’t come here - I tried to sleep with 2 pillows over my head last night. Sounded like I had a DJ in our room. The service is hit or miss - sometimes very attentive but mostly difficult to reach someone on the phone and have them understand your request. Took 4 phone calls and me finally going to the office to get airport transportation. The staff generally speaks very little English which results in incorrect answers or confusion/misinformation. The restaurant food was less than tolerable for me and I don’t think I finished a single dish. There’s nothing I’d order again. The room service food was good - def best food we ate - but every single time there was something missing or some small issue with our order. Overall more chasing and small annoyances than I want on vacation. The room itself was really nice and comfortable- the property is fine. The lazy river is nice but the beach is completely unusable because of the seaweed. The water is dark brown with loads of seaweed floating in it, with another 2 feet piled high on the sand. I would not come back, namely because of the noise and inability to sleep. Not 100% of guests want to attend the shows each night, but you have no choice as the stage is outside in the middle of the property and the volume is unreal.

Loved the resort, while a little dated it was the perfect honeymoon get away! The staff and entertainment were wonderful! My only complaint is you have to use your cell phone for everything and that is distasteful to be on your phone at restaurants.

Service We recently stayed at Excellence Riviera Cancun for 8 days and 9 nights as part of a group trip that we personally coordinated for 35 guests. All guests booked swim-up suites through our travel agent, with the total cost of the trip averaging approximately $80,000. Prior to booking, both our travel agent and our group were informed by the resort that we would receive a complimentary 4-day/4-night stay as an incentive for bringing a large group to the property. To accommodate this, the resort created two separate reservations for us, as they stated this was the only way to ensure the complimentary stay could be applied. We were required to pay for the entire trip in full 30 days prior to check-in, with the understanding that the cost associated with the complimentary stay would be refunded afterward. We complied with these terms; however, no refund was issued prior to our arrival. Our travel agent made multiple attempts to resolve this with the resort before our trip, but received little to no response. It was only after significant follow-up that they were finally given the name of a manager and advised that we should address the matter directly upon arrival. Upon checking in, we inquired about the refund in person. We were told the manager was unavailable and reassured that the refund would be processed before our departure. Unfortunately, throughout our entire 8-day, 9-night stay, neither we nor our travel agent were contacted by anyone at the resort regarding this matter. On the day of checkout, we again followed up and were told that “customer service was handling it.” Now, over a week later, we have still received no communication from the resort and no refund has been issued.

Chez Isabella was disappointing. The downgrade from sea bass to cod was extremely disappointing. Similarly, the entertainment was not as good as in years past. The Legends and the girl singer as part of a trio were good. The rest of the entertainment was disappointing The soloists were hard to listen to. Otherwise we very much enjoyed our stay . We are diamond tier so we frequently repeat

Our trip in January was for my best friend’s wedding and we had a wonderful time. The service was great and always felt like we were always approached when our drinks were nearing empty or during lunch by the pool to offer to bring us food. Just like all resorts, some staff are very outgoing and some staff are just there to do their job but we were never met with anything but friendly conversation. The food options were great. However, I did find there was often a lack of flavor to which case I always found myself adding salt to protein, etc. Unfortunately, I did come down with a case of “montezumas revenge” at the end of the trip which was very severe. I was VERY careful about not consuming tap water, etc so I worry that it may have been related to the buffet or frozen bar drinks with fruit. Out of our large group of 70 people, I was the only one to get ill. Overall, a nice time. We usually vacation with Sandals resorts to which I would stay I have a preference for but we are considering Excellence Oyster Bay in Jamaica for our anniversary trip because it did impress us so much. The food was just amazing. Service amazing. Rooms are a little dated, nothing major and very clean. Exceeded our expectations. Restful and clam

This was our 5th time staying at Excellence Riveria Cancun. The facility is clean, the staff is warm, welcoming and helpful, the food is great. The rooms are perfect. Just an overall great vibe. This is a great place to go relax and enjoy.
