"Management was very hard to deal with"

6.0

This is a quaint old hotel that could be a nice place to stay if the management would be easier to work with. Over 48 hours before our 1st of a 4 night stay was to begin, we called and asked to cancel our 1st night and add it to the last night. It would still be 4 nights, but just shifted by one day. They first told us they thought it would be ok but would have to talk with the manager. The next day the manager would not speak to us and when we arrived at the hotel, we found out that I was evidently speaking with the manager the first time. Not only did they make us pay for the night we did not stay there, but they charged us 2 times our rate for the last night. The manager never would speak with us. Also, we were 120 steps up, but they never told us that they had an elevator that we could use. We found it ourselves on the 2nd day there.

"never again"

6.0

my room was plain cold. after they figured i used air conditioner to heat up the room they SWITCHED IT OFF. + paperwalls - you'll enjoy all the noises made by your neighbor including quiet phone conversations in the middle of the night. oh yes, I almost forgot - no cups in the room and no source of hot water, if you are a tea fan; well they would bring you a kettle with hot water once. You're on your own the rest of the time. the ONLY benefit of the hotel is the location.

"A Shabby Htel"

2.0

Hotel had old worn carpets throughout. Food was just fair. Mattress on bed was 6" thick. Elevator stopped only between floors so that you had to walk up or down half a flight to your foom. To get to the elevator from the lobby you had to climb up one floor. Basically the place was a dump. Most disappointed.

"Marco Polo Hotel - Saint Petersburg Russia"

4.0

In our opinon this is far from a 5* hotel quality, a fair rate is a 3* as a maximum. In spite it is only 3 floors , the lift is scary, 4 nights we stay there we didn't see anybody using it ! In our bathroom, we have a awful and strong bad smell , which we supose come from the drenage pipe system, also, two days we have left without hot water for the shower ; ok they advise they have a problem , but ....., breakfast was poor to medium , not a breakfast you expect from a 5* hotel .

"Would expect more from a 4 star hotel"

8.0

Overall clean and tiny hotel... but.. There is an issue with a lift! Its tiny and only goes from the second floor. We had no assistance carrying our luggage to the 5th floor, and since the lift is tiny ( actually is unbelievably small and would not fit 2 people with 2 small suitcases) had to use the stairs. Breakfast was ok, but it pays off to be there early - one morning we came down after 9.30 and there was hardly any food left and there were no seats in the restaurant!

"Best hotel in St. Petersburg"

10.0

Very nice hotel. Staff is helpful and professional. Good buffet breakfast with lots of choices both hot and cold. This hotel is at the heart of Vasilievskiy Ostrov, but the Metro's easily walk able and Nevsky Prospect is only 1 stop away. Rooms are very cosy and clean.

"Avoid at all cost"

2.0

I have stayed in Russian hotels many times but this was an absolutely awfull experience. 1. I booked and paid for a suite but was given a room, albeit a refurbished one, which they insisted was a suite. Very old style t.v. They said the hotel was full so had to make do. 2. The Manager was never to be seen/not interested but instead there were some very young girls in the reception who could speak little English but were unable to do anything. 3. There was no hot water for 2 days. We were not told nor offered alternative hot water. 4. Breakfast was absolutely terrible in terms of choice and quality except the porridge. Food was cold most of the time and often ran out with long waits for more. 5. The area borders on the seedy but is convenient for the metro. 6. This hotel is at best 2/3 stars. Read into what they say on their web site. 7. You need to be a packhorse to get to the first floor as ther's no lift and the stairs are very steep. No porter either. To avoid any disappointment do not book this hotel if you are used to basic Western standards.

"Not Impressed"

4.0

This is sipmply not a 5 star hotel as it is advertized! It is more like a 3-star hotel. The room was clean and accurate but tiny with VERY modest "IKEA style" furniture and last cetnury TV set - I have not seen one of those in a hotel for a very long time! - That is not what we expected at all - could have booked a way better hotel for this price.
