Kimpton Canary Hotel by IHG

Location to shops, farmers market was great. Short walk to beach.

No work out room. No counter space in bathroom. Bath was totally outdated. Paint and decor needs updating. Only had coffee and water til 11am. Seems like that could be an all day thing for the price. Beach cruiser bikes were sooo old and outdated. I’d expect more For the price.

The hotel was in a great location and was very comfortable. Staff was pleasant and accommodating.

The $50 parking fee seemed ridiculously high.

Lovely boutique feel. Staff was courteous, attentive, and eager to assist. Rooftop pool was very nice and relaxing. Nothing extravagant but served its purpose well. Rooftop bartender was attentive. Lounge area was nice as well.

The location wasn’t as nice as we had hoped. Unfortunately downtown Santa Barbara is not very clean and there were several unhoused in the vestibules and corners of the buildings.

Amazing stay at Kimpton Canary in Santa Barbara. Great location, great service and beautiful hotel. The whole staff were very friendly and attentive. Edwin made our birthday getaway very special and memorable, he was very welcoming and attentive and even sent a special treat to our room. We are already planning our next visit.

Room decor tired and grubby looking -bathroom lacking in good facilities no hand held shower for hair and main shower head not great power. Dirty many hairs seen esp in bathroom on sink, towels and floor. Had to sleep with earplugs due to noisy road. Staff inept and not very welcoming - gave us room next to lift which is very noisy when asked to move got “upgrade” room overlooking construction workers!

I definitely read reviews before I stay at hotel, so I try and make my reviews as detailed as possible. I chose Kimpton for a quick little 2 night getaway for my birthday through my AMEX fine hotels and resorts collection. The check in was very nice and the staff was super friendly and competent. They offered me a free upgrade to a "juliet balcony" but it was facing a gas station so I didn't find that to be necessary. They also had a plate of a couple of cookies waiting in the room, which was nice touch. I had a girlfriend join me last minute, and she forgot a lot of toiletries, and the staff provided them for her very quickly. We enjoyed the social hour with wine poured by friendly staff. We also made use of the pool for an hour or so, and found it to be very clean and well appointed (nice clean towels on every chair, sunscreen and after sun care provided, fresh ice cold water, etc) We also made use of the bikes they provided. Once, again the staff (valet) was super friendly and helpful, and even took pictures for us. The hotel has a partnership with a gym about a mile away, on State street. We found the walk enjoyable and may have gotten distracted by a shop or two on the way. I enjoyed the gym -- it had everything we needed and felt like a neighborhood gym. We found the hotel to be diligent and thoughtful in providing an overall lovely experience. Some places to improve/be aware of: We found the room to be nice, but a refresh is probably needed sometime in the near future. We also felt the restaurant was a little overpriced -- but it's hotel so it was not unexpected. We were going to order some snacks at the pool but the service closed at 2pm and didn't resume again for another hour or two (I can't remember exactly) which we thought was strange.

Property is fairly nice but there were many issues during our stay. For one, they offer an upgrade to a room with a balcony however, it’s hardly a balcony extending a mere 4 inches. Our room was over an alley where trash trucks and constant filling of trash bins wasn’t a pleasant way to wake up. Restaurant on property was sub par as well. Rooftop pool is nice but quite small and overcrowded.
