The Westin Bear Mountain Resort & Spa, Victoria

Had booked 2 corner one-bedroom suites for 1 night. The primary motivation to select this resort was the location. We were not disappointed. The property is located at the top of Bear Mountain in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. A disappointing aspect of our stay was the condition of one of the rooms—1. the air conditioner was not working. To address this deficiency, the room had a portable air conditioner. That was ok, but I wouldn't expect this in a suite: 2. Few light fittings in the room were not working; 3. The room had 3 windows that could have been opened but had missing levers to do so.

Room was great but the Sat evening was marred with crying child in connecting room. That extended into the next morning. Not much you can do when parents seem to do nothing about their children. That knocked quiet out of the weekend from my perspective.

Didn’t like how everything for food was closed at 9:30pm too early.

I chose this resort expecting a relaxing and premium experience, but unfortunately my stay was overshadowed by unfair treatment and poor room quality. 1. Unfair smoking fee The hotel charged me a smoking violation fee even though I never smoked inside the room or on the balcony. Their “evidence” was only a half-used cigarette pack found in the room, which is simply a personal belonging and not proof of smoking. There were no cigarette butts, no ashes, no burn marks, nothing that actually showed smoking had occurred. They also mentioned a “smell” and a “guest complaint,” but provided no objective evidence such as photos or documented reports. Charging $250+ based only on vague and subjective claims is extremely unreasonable. When I asked for proper proof, the hotel refused. 2. Poor soundproofing The rooms were very noisy. I could clearly hear conversations, footsteps, and doors slamming from neighboring rooms and the hallway. This made it very difficult to relax or sleep, which is unacceptable for a resort that markets itself as luxury. 3. Overall impression While the property has potential with its golf course and location, the way management handles guest issues shows a lack of fairness and transparency. I respect Marriott’s smoke-free policy, but policies must be enforced with proper evidence, not assumptions. Combined with the poor soundproofing, my experience fell far below expectations. I would caution future guests to be very careful if you choose this property. Even if you follow the rules, you may still face arbitrary charges and a less-than-relaxing stay.

Out of the way, but overall a nice place with good staff.
