The Royal Hotel Hull

The furnishings are a bit dated and worn but the room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed and we had a good nights sleep.

Great location, next door to train station. Secured door entry during night. On the other hand, staff need to be more fo. Common areas and hallway are rundown. Tired decoration.

Just one night saving a taxi fare. Great location, our room was good, bathroom could be updated but on the whole, spotless and a great stay. Incidentally, fantastic reception staff!

l have stayed here before and that is why I chose the same place again as the rooms are nice and clean and comfortable and quiet and the private bathroom is excellent and of the highest quality stewart Alazia.

A wonderful surprise compared to my other Brittania hotel stays. Well refurbished room practical clean and bright with a modern functional bathroom. The bar and public areas were delightful staff really pleasant and overall a real value for money stay.

I've often stayed at the Royal when visiting Hull, and found it to have a dated charm - it's in no way a modern hotel, but the staff have always been courteous, and there's a sense of Vistoriana about the place, which makes it stand out. This time round, however, my stay was just frustrating. From being assigned a "City Room" (basically a closet with a window), to finding a shower that worked only when you unscrewed it, a bed whose springs were presumably in optimal condition in Victorian times, through to the fact that I had to change my key card on three occasions over a three night stay. The staff, whilst not unpleasant, did however exhibit a spectacular lack of nous. I was not offered the option of pre-authorising a card on check-in, which meant another trip to reception (on top of the keycard ones) to attend to this, and to top off a frustrating stay, upon check out, the member of staff did not know how to either remove the pre-authorisation, or how to operate the printer for a receipt. Which rather begs the question of which bright managerial spark saw fit to allow her to be at reception and embarrass herself - if she wasn't trained for that function it's an act of rather callous negligence to put her there. After this episode, the chances of a repeat stay are somewhere close to zero.
