Merritt House Hotel

The atmosphere in the hotel is nice. The hotel is not new, but clean and well located. The team is nice as well. Try the fireplace. Easy to maintain and a very nice add-on.

Great location within walking distance of most Monterey attractions

Charming place! It's a historical adobe that has been converted to a hotel. The bathroom is new and modern. Because the building is old, the walls are thinner and you will hear your neighbors. If you are staying on the ground floor, you will hear creaking floors from above. The charm outweighs these inconveniences, though. Location is perfect - walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf.

There was only 1 key to the room. I trash can in the bathroom. No A/C. No phone in the room so that k could ask for tissues, etc. Breakfast was extra poor.

Great location, quiet, clean.

It would be perfect if we didn’t have to listen to an amorous couple ALL Night. The walls are tragically thin. Some sound maintenance is woefully needed.

The location and service were great, room was immaculate, and the lobby and courtyard were adorable. Lots of restaurants and even a Walgreens within walking distance plus you could walk to the harbor or even over to Cannery Row and the Aquarium if you had time (a little over a mile over to there). But the room didn’t have a window or air conditioning unit, so it was really hot at night and the only way to cool it off was by opening the door. And the bed was way too firm to the point where it affected my sleep despite being exhausted from all the walking and hiking :( The parking was extra $ and it was really difficult to get in and out of the spaces even in our little rental car. But the continental breakfast was good. Overall it was ok, but we probably won’t be staying here again due to the bed and lack of cooling, but this is perfect for your first time in Monterey if you want to be close to all the in-town action and maybe our room and bed was an exception to the rest.

This is a quaint inn with a lovely courtyard. The staff members were very nice. Our room was a bit tired with signs of wear. The cold continental breakfast is a nice offering. However, cold items such as milk, yogurt and hard boiled eggs were not kept cold while out for breakfast; they would have been tastier if kept on ice.

Dont book your stay off the site pictures. The property is ok, not great, decent not charming or quaint. Maybe a step above your standard chain motel.
