Great location and proximity to the lake and Main Street

Very basic , taken Scandinavian style to the minimum! No coziness, no extra furniture (chair !) or pictures. No tea or coffee making facilities… not unlike a hostel or prison cell. Room heater was so loud and no hot water for a shower.

The location is perfect. You are steps away from Main St. Seemingly, a renovation was done and it looks beautiful.

It wouldn’t deter another visit but the elevator was not part of the renovation budget. It is very outdated. Breakfast could be of a little more abundant and quality.

We stayed at the Laurel in Lake Placid from December 30 through January 1. Given the cost of the stay, the experience was disappointing. The driveway has a steep grade and was poorly plowed and salted. Ice beneath the snow made entering the property difficult and unsafe. Inside, the hotel has a pleasant European style and attractive decor, though it shows wear in places. The rooms themselves are very sparse and lack basic conveniences you would expect at this price point. There is no closet and not even hooks to hang winter coats in a ski town. There is one small nightstand shared between two queen beds, no desk, no coffee maker, and no lock on the bathroom door. One wall sconce had a broken switch, which required loosening the bulb to turn it off. The beds were comfortable, which was one of the few positives. Basic amenities were also lacking. None of the vending machines had food or beverages, and they remained empty for the entire stay. Service was another weak point. Communication with staff was often difficult, and questions went unanswered. For example, the lobby restrooms were closed for about 45 minutes while the lobby was being cleaned, yet no one could explain why the bathrooms were unavailable. On checkout day, our morning activity, dog sledding on Mirror Lake, started 30 minutes late. I asked for a small checkout extension since we would return only 15 minutes before checkout time. The request was denied outright, with no flexibility offered. As a result, we had to pack everything early, move all luggage to the lobby, and then reopen bags to sort clean and dirty items once the family returned. On New Year’s Eve, guests were asked to pay $10 per person to remain in the lobby and enjoy the festivities. This felt unnecessary given that we had already paid a premium to stay over the holiday. On the morning of checkout, while waiting in the lobby, another guest could be heard at the front desk loudly complaining that staff the previous evening had been rude to them. That interaction reinforced our own experience with the level of service. Overall, it was not a good experience. On a previous visit, we stayed at the Lake House at High Peaks Resort and had a much better stay, even though that property had an older remodel.

I have never been so disappointed with a hotel and am still so surprised that they would relaunch the new "Laurel" given the state it was in. Dirty, rude personnel and disheveled public spaces. We had been looking forward to staying here since reading about Bluebird when it first opened, but I will dissuade anyone from staying here.

Location to Main Street was excellent. Good value ski lodge feel.
