The Alexandra is ideally located near the railway station, just a 3 minute walk away. The hotel is clean and comfortable if a little dated in places. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is a little dated in places but not to the point of causing any issues.

Good location for the train station and thus the Jacobite steam train (1 minute walk). Good free parking. The bedding and towels were all clean and fresh. Plenty of hot water in the shower (over bath).

My room (118) was sweltering hot on arrival. The weather had been warm (but not hot) for the previous 2 days (max.19 Celsius mid afternoon) but the room was an oven. The window was open and opened a little further, the heating was not on (I checked) and yet the room was so hot it was impossible to sleep. My guess is that the room is directly above the kitchen as there was also a noisy metal vent pipe right next to the window. I held the bedroom door open in an attempt to let some cooler air in but there was no flow of air in the corridor either. By 6am the room had cooled very slightly and I managed to doze for 90 minutes. The room was quite small, doorway to bathroom unusually narrow. Bathroom door, bath panel and other fittings had clear signs of water damage, looking very tatty. There was an ancient electric heated towel rail (turned off) with its top cover missing exposing electrical elements. This would be VERY dangerous if in use. The "view" out of the window was on to the flaking and peeling flat roof of the floor below, with another set of hotel bedrooms just 25 feet away. Unpleasant. Overall this room might be regarded as average for a low budget hotel, but at £135 for single occupancy, 1 night without breakfast it was appalling. I would never stay there again.
