"Worst place I have ever stayed."

2.0

7 of us rented 4 rooms here in mid-September. We drove from Paris and the people we’ve encountered at Mont St Michel have were the rudest, meanest, most disgusting people I have ever encountered. It began before we even parked the car. The parking lot attendant made us drive in a 2 mile circle instead of simply making a right turn. Why? Because they hate anyone who speaks English. This initially didn’t bother me but after 3 unbelievably rude bus drivers (the buses were all completely empty by the way at ~ 4pm), one of whom slammed the door on my pregnant sister and then almost ran her over, my goodwill began to expire. There are no directions for checking, so you are left to carry your luggage around while you search for the checkin. The rooms all stink of feces and are covered in mold and dirt and general filth. Your feet stick to both the carpet floor and the linoleum bathroom floor because they are so dirty and gross. This is by far the worst place I’ve ever been. Thank god we only booked 1 night. This isn’t a 1-star hotel.

The hotel says that it is 3 stars, but I would struggle to give it 1.5 stars. The reception area was dingy and the carpet looked filthy. The room was tiny, the toilet seat was broken, the bed was soft, lumpy and slanted downward so it felt like I was falling out of it. Some of the pillows had a musty smell and it didn’t seem all that clean. I have paid less for 4 and 5 star hotels that actually deserved their stars. Unfortunately this is what you get if you want to stay on the island, a sub-par hotel with an inflated price tag. But it’s worth staying on the island for one night. Just don’t expect the hotel to be anything more than barely ok.

I wasn't disappointed because I didn't expect much. But if you are like me and are taking the hotel just to stay in the abbey, there is another option. Come in the evening an hour before closing. All the beautiful locations will be available. If you are ok with the smell of the old furniture and dust, uncomfortable beds and tourists giggling at the windows - I have warned you. I understand the concept of preserving the past, but in this case it seems like not willing to spend on renovation.

"Historic property experience of Le Mont"

8.0

We had a 4 star experience due to the location and excellent breakfast included but knew this was a 3 star ish property coming in. We were in room 33 near the restaurant. Updates included a flat screen tv but with only French language programming, mini fridge and fabric wall covering. This room has large windows with ironwork that open over the causeway part of the bay. The bathroom is private and inside the room but consists of a toilet in a small closet and a separate room with odd tub shower without shower curtain and a sink with counter space. The bed was queen size and mod to high end linens made for a great sleep. We travel with white noise machines and adapters so the restaurant noise and start up for Le Mont business did not bother us—-it is there so be aware. Reception could be improved. No one attends the location you first see—-proceed another 30 meters through the stone arch and take stairs up to the left to find reception. Some attendants were more interested in talking among themselves than helping guests while others were super professional. There is a lot of dragging luggage up flights of stone or wooden winding stair cases so travel light. No assistance is offered. They were happy to keep our luggage after check out to allow us to explore the Mont unencumbered.

"Lots of Stairs, Great location,"

6.0

The main thing this hotel has going for it is the location, right in the middle of Mont St Michel. We had a room in the Ermitage. I counted 7 flights of stairs to get to our room. One flight up to get to reception, 3 flights up outside to get to the entrance to the Ermitage, and then two more flights to our room on the third floor. We knew there would be lots of stairs, but this was excessive, especially since I had my knee replaced 2 months ago. Oh, well, like I said, we knew there would be lots of stairs The good news is that we were already around halfway to the abbey. So the next morning my daughter went down to get breakfast and check out while I waited in the room, and when she got back we continued up to the abbey so I didn't have to redo those stairs. The room itself shabby bur was reasonably clean. The bathroom stank of sewage, but was also clean. The bed was clean and comfortable. One of the windows had a view of the abbey which made up for a whole lot. So on the whole we were comfortable and happy. If your goal is to stay in the middle of the Mont and enjoy it after hours this is a good choice.

Spending two nights on Mount Saint Michelle is a wonderful experience. Once the crowds of the day have disappeared it is nice to still walk the cobble streets and enjoy the atmosphere of this place. The hotel is classy and a good place to stay. There is some confusion about where to register for your Knights accommodation and where to have breakfast, but we finally worked that out.

The view is fantastic from a bay view room. I was a bit confused however and felt the property played a switcheroo with us. We booked a bay view room. Upon arriving, we were given a room in another hotel on a back walkway with zero view. My husband went back to the office to inquire and was told if we wanted a bay view it would be an additional fee. We paid it. This is a once in a lifetime experience and doubtful we will get back here since its thousands of miles from home. The fine print in the reservation does say they reserve the right to put you in a different room however I felt we were taken advantage of. We already paid for the view. It is gorgeous! You do need to pay attention to the email you receive stating where to go to check in. Its well marked. Also pay attention where to park. Also, do not let the stories of all the steps scare you! Im fat and out of shape and i did it! You can do it! There are a lot of stairs but also a lot of landings. Its easy to rest a bit. And you have to spend the night after the crowd leaves. It was great exploring in the evening and watching the tide come in!

Arrival information was vague. Parking was not explained and finding the reception was a guess. Corridors smelled of cat urine.
