La Mère Poulard

We decided to stay on the island and expected the rooms at the hotels to be small and old. Our room wasn’t huge but it was big enough and the bathroom was plenty large with a bath and separate shower. The staff was lovely and helpful and the restaurant was charming and delicious. Great experience.

Stayed on Mont St Michel island loved location. Was in middle of everything Problem booking never explained 2 things: 1- u need take bus to get on island, we could have taken less luggage. 2-description never stated 4th floor walk up! It was a real chore especially w/all luggage. Advance listing/notice would hav been nice!

Our stay in Mont Saint-Michel was a pleasant and terrific surprise. While I anticipated a medieval castle environment, I found the preservation of the entire environment to be astoundingly well done. The village and abbey are wonderful places to explore. We arrived late in the day (around 5p) and left the following day around noon. Short exploration before dinner and then visit to the abbey in the morning weee adequate but we could have planned a few extra hours to spend more time meandering in the village. Overall a great experience.

We loved staying on Mont St. Michel. Being on the island once the masses of tourist buses have departed for the day made the experience feel very magical. The hotel itself was fantastic. The room was very clean and full of character, with historic touches but still modern furnishes. The bathroom had 2 different showers (a larger bathtub shower combo and a smaller stand up stall shower). Laying in bed we could look out over the rooftops of the historic village and onto the mud flats and the bay. Note that a stay here includes climbing LOTS of steps — pack light. To get to our room from street level, it required climbing 125 steps (around 90 exterior steps to get to the building where the room was and then another 35 inside the building to get up to the room). For us, for the view and the feeling of being removed from the real world, it was completely worth it. But definitely not a good option if you can’t handle climbing stairs. Breakfast was good, and is back at street level in a separate building.

Our one night stay was excellent. All that you needed with a nice view.

Très bien situé

Key collected from an office, not the hotel you see online, up a flight of steep stone steps. Climbed another flight of steep stone steps to access the "green door" which led to a further 4 flights of stairs up to a small room. Room was tired, in need of a deep clean, thick dust around carpet edges/skirting boards. Toilet seat was not secure. Shower over bath, no shower curtain/screen. Hand soap dispenser broken. Bed/bedding/towels clean and satisfactory. Kettle provided with 2 sachets of coffee. Fridge not working and no bottled water provided. I would not recommend this hotel, oversold and undelivered

Room was located right next to an outdoor door walkway and window opened onto walkway. No ac, do needed to open window at night. Felt a bit weird and unsafe. Otherwise room was ok. Spacious and comfortable king-size bed.

I read the reviews and can only say this hotel was even worse than we expected based on the reviews. We reserved in January for a stay in May so this was not last minute. The room was on the 4th floor (5th for Americans). There is no elevator and the stairs are spiral. So okay, I should have known that. But once up there the room is old and not in a charming way. The lighting is poor, the rugs are stained, the bathroom is like something from the 1950's. The hallway on the 4th floor looks like a single room occupancy hotel and there is no hotel staff in the building or any form of security. The reception is in another building and not very customer friendly. Based on my experience in Mont St.-Michel i would recommend it as a day trip. Stay somewhere else and avoid the Mere Poulard. Perhaps some day they will renovate it.

This was an awesome experience staying on Mont Michel. So quiet in the evening when most of the tourists are off the island. Just a note, all steps. No disability friendly. Hotel was wonderful, no elevator.
