"We liked it…period"

8.0

We booked this hotel despite so many recent negative reviews thinking ours will just be a one night stay how bad can it get…we took a risk since we had 2 toddlers and one infant with us….surprisingly all went extremely well…the hotel staff were very cordial and polite…free breakfast had a lot of good options…rooms were clean though the tv was not working but we were aware of it while booking so we dint care…they had board games for kids so the kids could have screen free time actually…..all in all we liked it and specially it was the cheapest hotel we found and luckily the hotel did not disappoint us.by the way the back side of the hotel has a lake with an amazing fall view which is an extreme plus.

The only cons that we found were the taste of water is extremely strange not sure why ( we forgot to ask) The hotel is an old building so no lift you need to carry your luggage

"Perfect for Halloween! Not comfy by modern standards, but provides a unique antique experience."

5.0

I liked the kinda haunted-feeling, past-its-prime atmo. This big, turreted, old-timey pile --with its creaky floors, taxidermied critters staring from the dining room walls and its closed-yet-stocked bar -- had a kind of Overlook/Bates vibe. You could almost hear the chatter of long-dead guests who'd flocked to the place in its heyday -- back when folks drove up to "take the (sulphurous) waters" and quaff at the hotel's celebrated beer garden. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the evening, listening to folks talking around the fire pit across the way. The young woman at the desk was nice, and she had a really cute, friendly Labradoodle-type pup. Also, there was an ample continental breakfast served in the dark dining room, which for whatever reason, was barely lit.

It was a warm day for late September ... and the hotel does not have air conditioning -- probably due to the enormous undertaking/expense of having to rewire/retrofit such a huge, aged structure. The toilet/shower room was cramped and dated. There are not the amenities one is accustomed to seeing in conventional, more modern hotels: no room fridge, vending machine, ice. The TV in our room did not work and a bedside lamp did not light.

"Room was cozy. Hosts were very helpful and friendly."

Continental breakfast was thoughtfully set out even as I was the only guest. Delicious muffins. Eating on the deck was very pleasant.

Coffee was ok

"You need to update your listing so it’s accurate!"

6.0

The staff was super nice and the setting idyllic

I chose more expensive rm to watch Olympics and fridge for my meds. They had neither. Was expecting restaurant which no longer in operation. Rm very small & expected ( on my own) antique feel instead of just worn & tired

"We spent the night in the German countryside (in NY)"

6.0

This property is a beautiful old hotel. Upon entering I felt like I was in Germany in 1900’s. Personally I love that. The host was very friendly. The room was clean. The bathroom needs some updating. They have wonderful fire pits to sit around. A nice experience for one night.

The rooms need some updating. But you can survive without them. All was functional.
