The Grand Scarborough

On Friday a coach party of 30 guests arrived at approximately mid day. 29 were immediately booked in. Leaving one guest , still unable to be paired and united with his room. He was told that, until the Internet got back on line, he could not progress. He was left in the foyet 3hour +. It was a very hot day, His phone was rapidly loosing charge. When he plugged it in to the nearest socket, he was told to unplugg it. No attemp was made to give him any assistance. Not good enough.

We was down stairs and corridors was shocking. And the place was full at night and they shut the bar at 10 was so disappointing for everyone. Its been same every time we go in week. That spoils our holiday. Its about the customers not the staff knock off.

Breakfast cost too much for self-serving food. Same ingredients, utensils too hot under heat lights.

At each meal time, queues for the food. Again, self-serving, NOT what I expected. Price too heavy for what was on offer. Asked for my room to be cleaned, got no response. Room stayed untouched until I left property.

Lovely location and such an iconic building.

Check in seemed very long winded. Staff were a bit hassled.

Good location, comfy bed, large room with huge window and sea view

Dirty carpet in room, bathroom panelling unfinished and sharp area around the bath, no fixings in the bathroom to hang towels or toilet roll, very unpleasant dirty, smoky smell in the room. Hotel had internet problems when checking in, the staff were unorganized and very flustered. Returned an hour later as requested but still not connected, the staff gave us a room with no key card and had to take us into the room. I mentioned the unpleasant smell which she dismissed as being herself just having a cigarette?. We decided to go out and when we returned the cleaning lady let us into our room, still no key card. Much later we had to go back to reception to get into our room again. It would have been nice to have breakfast in the hotel but despite the hotel being dog friendly there was no designated area we could sit to have breakfast. The second night was very noisy, people drunk and shouting, banging on our door, staff being called to deal with the noise. Evening my bar staff were rude and need training. Entertainment was ok for young children. Overall experience we would not stay at this hotel chain again!!

Lovely people working there, under very tricky circumstances. Beautiful new carpet through the public areas. Potentially amazing dining room. Excellent bath towels. Great shower. Easy walk from the station and pleasant walk down to the beach. Right next to the cliff railway.

They don't have luggage storage - I mean - what? A huge hotel like that without? We had booked an executive room, and it was continuously not ready. We had booked a double, received a twin. The room was a tall cell - it has a tall window, so a lower ceiling wouldn't be possible, and it was obviously carved out of another room . In fact I think about five rooms might have been carved out of a single gracious room. Downstairs are masses of fruit machines, not fenced off from children, which is deeply sad. Breakfast was overly full, not enough room for everyone who came down. Tragic eggs, sad bacon. Norwegian guests who were there at the same time looked appalled. I just think Grand is a misnomer, it should be called the "beautiful building run much like a motorway service station." It obviously relies on full occupancy, but there aren't enough staff. The ones there are are massively stretched. I'd have paid more for a better room, a better experience.
