The Grand Scarborough

Dreadful. We attended Scarborough for the Skunk Anansie gig. Originally planning on camping, this was thwarted when I realised the council had passed a prohibition on the North Bay area. Cue the booking at The Grand, made probably a fortnight before the actual date. In my naivety I thought ‘The Grand’ and the price suggested ‘nice’. Or even just reasonable. Now I’m no stranger to slumming it. I’m not fussed as long as it’s clean and the price reflects the accommodation- but oh my word. Windowless room cost me £157 and it was appalling. The room was underground and it really did have a feel of the lower decks from the film Titanic. I can understand (just) no air con, but no extractor fan? There was literally no air. There was a toe nail in the bin and the flush on the toilet was broken. Consider then, that after a few beers the night before my other half needed the bog... You can guess the rest. We didn’t have a lay in… I sometimes have the misfortune to work in Police cells and let me tell you- they’re better than that room. £40 would have been a fair price, but the capitalising on the date of the gig showed the epic greed of that hotel. I wouldn’t stay again.

Fan in the room didn't seem to work but we just left the window open.

Room was mucky, cups were filthy n hallway. Bathroom floor was flooded. Manager was rude and unhelpful.

The area is perfect.

The long wait to book in ,due to internet . The skirting board at the side's of the bed was very dusty. The fan was thick of dust.I wish I had taken photos but regret not doing so. There was only 1 cup in the room (3 adults)and no plastic cups for drinks. There was nowhere to hang a towel in the bathroom. There was no soap in either dispensers in the bathroom.i reported this and still got no dispenser filled. My husband had to again the next day for cups so we could have a hot drink.

The location was excellent

We were in a twin room the shower was very small and the room was small we went for a drink in a bar outside it was full of bird droppings and broken furniture the hotel could do with a lick of paint and new furniture outside the furniture was broken would not stay again it is not worth the money it is a shame because it has a lot of potential but it has just been neglected for years

The location was central and it was convenient to have a fridge in the room.

Our shower didn’t work - it was flooding the room and me and my friend couldn’t use it throughout our stay. We spoke to staff but they didn’t resolve the issue. They offered to put us in a different room with no windows but we didn’t want that because it was so warm. The decor and facilities were very outdated and it seemed like the staff didn’t really care about resolving the problem we had.

Needed alittle TLC

Beautiful historical building in sad condition. Bed linen clean. Staff were very nice considering they must get complaints all day.

Bad smell throughout hotel. Either strong chemicals or sewage. Bathroom wasnt clean, no WiFi in basement rooms. Creepy fake window in the room. Broken shower head leading to flooded bathroom. Hotel in sad state of disrepair. Outside of building covered in seagull nests, actually quite incredible.

The location is fantastic, the breakfast being included in the price was above my expectations with what you could have, it was a large choice of breakfast options. Every member of staff I met were above and beyond helpful. It's a great location to stay for anything you want to visit in Scarborough. All the furniture in any places to stay and sit was high quality. I loved the honour of able to stay in such a grand building and although you couldn't go into all the ballrooms, you were allowed to see inside and they were as stunning as I had hoped they would be.

The really long queue to check in, I had been emailed to request I log in online 3 days before arriving (I initially was worried it was a spam email as I did not expect to be requested to check in 3 days before I even got there) so I completed the repeat request at 10am that morning & still queued for 25 mins to get my key card. I didn't understand the point of booking in online if there wasn't some outlet that could issue you a room number & card that didn't involve speaking to a person.
