"I couldn’t love this country Inn more if I tried"

10.0

My husband and I decided on a last minute mid week night away for our birthday and we found what looked like the perfect country inn to stay at and located only a short drive from Bourton on the Water… we were not disappointed. It was everything we had hoped for and much more. It had been the first morning of the year with snow fall followed by Arctic like winds, and so it was such a relief to receive such a warm welcome both by the staff and the log fires burning. Literally from the time we stepped in through the door we knew we were going to have the most perfect stay. This once old couching inn had all the character you would expect from such a beautiful old property, the fires and candles were lit, so warm, cosy and incredibly inviting. The atmosphere was homely and the decor stylish but in keeping. We had opted for one of the more expensive large boutique kingsize rooms. It was not a huge room, which you wouldn’t expect from an old coaching inn, but more than spacious whilst again remaining cosy. The room was simple and beautifully stylish, and the ambiance was such that we could have easily stayed in that room for the entire visit. The Hypnos bed was huge and comfortable, the bed linen, pillows and duvet were of a high quality, the coffee machine was a fabulous touch and there was a nice selection of complimentary teas, coffees and hot chocolates along with some delicious biscuits. The room bar was well stocked, there was a very tempting basket of snacks available at a reasonable price, the hairdryer was clearly a Dyson, the toiletries were divine, thick large bath towels and gowns and so many other nice touches and attention to detail. Although these are dog friendly rooms, there was absolutely no sign that a dog had ever stayed, the room was immaculately clean. There was a stunning roll top bath which obviously after a day out in the cold was a welcoming site, and a powerful rainfall shower. We opted to eat in the restaurant and that was equally pleasurable. I was surprised to see the dining room bustling for a midweek evening but that soon became evident why when our food came out. Absolutely delicious and the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce in particular was mouth wateringly good. Next morning we were greeted again by the warmth of the log fires and lit candles in the bar and reception areas, then a breakfast that I can only describe as legendary not only in quality of ingredients but in quantity. The staff were attentive to our needs, incredibly professional and friendly from the cleaners, to the servers, to the manager, they were all a credit to this inn. We loved loved loved this place so much that we were tempted to stay by the fire, drink and relax, rather than venture out and see the sights of the Cotswolds. Had our room been available the next night we would most definitely have extended our stay… without doubt we will be returning to the Wheatsheaf and are already planning a short break here early into the new year. Truly fabulous and it ticked all the right boxes for me at least.

"Good stay!"

7.0

Lovely building, very beautiful room and shower with an amazingly stocked mini fridge and snacks basket, lovely bedding and robes provided. Good garden area and breakfast was amazing, we had the full english :)

I can’t fault the room at all bar one thing, it was extremely hot, we had to keep the window open and use the fan, even in November! The location is advertised as Bourton on water however it’s about a 10 minute drive (2 hour walk!) and is practically impossible to get a taxi last minute if you hadn’t realised. There was nothing in the actual area.

"I felt that the price was high considering location and size of room."

Breakfast was amazing, Staff were lovely and very friendly. Room was very small but cosy Clean.

Location was poor and not as advertised. It was advertised as in Bouton on Water, a quaint little village where we particularly wanted to stay. However this was a six mile drive away, and there was absolutely nothing to see or do near that accommodation

I stayed at the Wheatsheaf Inn as a surprise birthday trip and had the best time! The hotel had put balloons and a card in the room which was a nice touch ☺️. The room was super cosy and very clean. I felt comfortable straight away! Breakfast in bed was a bonus too! Staff were super lovely so I will 100% be back again soon! Perfect weekend away😇

Great pub hotel fab room friendly helpful staff. Food great but desserts ok . THE spotted dick pudding a bit dry and husband wasn't keen on cheesecake topping and this is usually fave dessert. Otherwise food fantastic perhaps more vegan options would be good because if I came with daughters very limiting. Would definitely visit again love that dog friendly although couldn't bring ours this time

Always the warmest of Welcomes after a long journey and whatever life throws The Wheatsheaf always delivers. In November both fires were lit in the bar area and lounge. Beautifully decorated. Deep luxury beds dressed with the finest white bed linen. Huge rainfall shower soft white thick towels. With a delicious menu and your room stocked full of bar treats.

"It’s all in the details!!"

Love love loved this Inn! We called to inform of our late arrival and the staff waited for us to help us carry our luggage up the stairs. They had upgraded one of our rooms because it was available and we were so pleased to find our rooms, clean, spacious, comfortable, and adorned with lovely details. A basket full of snacks, refrigerator stocked with drinks, cookies on the nightstand and herbal toiletries. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning and tea and ice cream in the lounge area by the fireplace which was lit making a truly cozy inn atmosphere. Staff was friendly and attentive. We would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Cotswolds.

"Just Stay HERE!! Make it your home base."

10.0

I don't even know where to start. A sweet old lady in a neighboring town questioned as to why on earth would we go to Northleach. I panicked and even tried to cancel this reservation - I'm happy that wasn't an option - in fact I wish I had chosen to stay here all 4 nights during our Cotswold's trip. From the moment we walked down the street from the bus stop, I kept telling myself it would be fine. Then I spotted the ivy-covered facade. My hopes brightened as we entered the front door of the pub. It was like stepping into a novel. Smokey fireplace pub with tufted chairs, sparkling bar where locals mingled, multiple dining 'rooms' where smaller gatherings would be intimate. The staff was there and immediately helped us get settled. When he opened our room, my heart nearly burst - to think that I almost cancelled. The room was modern yet felt so cozy. The window looked out over a courtyard. The bathroom was large and inviting - waterfall shower, soaking tub and a toilet that didn't require a macerator. We had a light dinner of beef coquettes and butternut squash soup. Then proceeded to roam the grounds. It is deceivingly MASSIVE. There were several courtyards, and a glass enclosed patio room that led into the main hotel area. I could see how this would be an amazing venue for receptions or business dinners. That first night - slipping into the most luxurious bedding I've ever experienced in a hotel was unbelievable. Silky smooth, but not tacky. Thick but not crunchy. Slept like a baby! The morning breakfast was equally stunning - my husband opted for the full English and I the eggs royal with salmon and hollandaise sauce. It was also a short bus to the famous Diddly Squat Farm - Farmer's Dog pub. The town of Bibury is also very close but there was a detour and we were rerouted through Cirencester. From there we were provided a council shuttle that took us there free of charge.

I couldn't find a single thing to dislike. There really isn't anything to DO in Northleach other than visit the cathedral and prison (both worth the time). But as a quite place to start and end the day - it's perfect
