Hotel Calamidoro

What a great find. Family of 4 (kids 12 & 14) and looking for a family holiday with a location between Pisa and Florence . Location is 20 mins from Pisa airport and don't be scared of the location when you drive in. Keep left and pass the American dinner (which is good by the way for kids). Drive across the massive car park and buzz the intercom at he massive gates. Drive down the country manor style drive way to the hotel. We got two adjoining rooms which then gave us two living rooms, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Very secure and even had two safes and four TV's. They were adjoined with a simple door so gave it a large house feel. Staff are friendly and very attentive and there seems to be an arm of cleaning and gardening staff keeping the hotel and grounds looking tip top. WIFI is excellent (for the kids to keep entertained) along with the pool and breakfast. When you first drive in you would have passed the American Dinner along with the petrol station, chemist , few other bars and the entrance to the other pools and main restaurant. You have breakfast in the hotel where you are staying and you can have dinner in this external restaurants this is fantastic place to eat. But not every night as the food is at a very high standard and rich (risk of gout :) ). We found that there is a great Pizza place a few mins walk away.there is a back path from the property and head towards the new Lidl supermarket. It is right beside the Chinese supermarket (which is great for pool toys and other crap you forgot to bring with you). Pisa is a 20 min drive away and Florence 40. There is a train station with parking on the way to Florence which we used and was perfect. Surrounding are is fine with a few GEMS! -Small lake with beach and a great cafe. -Piagio Vespa museum. -another 50's style dinner with the girls are on roller skates. -massive shopping area with a Mall and Decathlon etc. - theme park with roller coasters which is in a forest and undercover and cool. The hotel has a driving range, archery target to kill an hour or two when the family are have a siesta. One thing though, take the plug in mosquito killing type things for the rooms. The whole of Tuscany is irrigated to water the land and there is no escaping it unless you are prepared. Mozzies are water born. I easily recommend the hotel and area. If you are willing to drive and explore; this place is for you. If you want to switch off and have a prosseco by the pool yes this place is for you also.

The hotel is well set back from the road and its amazing. The buildings look old and stately but are from old, they are very well appointed. You arrive at the residence through a gated entrance. The rooms are big and airy with plenty of space. There is a very secluded swimming pool which is lovely for a dip or small swim. If you want to be an olympian there is a full size olympic pool two minute walk away. The grounds are very well kept, which include a golf driving range and large pond. The food is brilliant, breakfast is a buffet with just about everything you could imagine, your spoilt for choice and will probably end up eating far to much. The dinner is very traditional and exceptional, the dinner restaurant is a two minute walk next to the olympic pool. The staff are friendly, attentive and extremely hospitaly in all parts of the complex. This is much nearer to a five star hotel than the four it has.

Dejligt hotel, i autentisk torscansk stil. Gode brede senge, gode badeprodukter, store værelser og med dejlig udsigt der hvor vi boede. Eneste lille minus er lidt støj fra et udendørs diskotek i weekenden. Fin lille pool. Super hjælpsomt personale. Vi bookede 2 ekstra overnatninger i forlængelse, med 3 vi have booket i forvejen.

We had an absolutely fantastic holiday here, everything about it is brilliant. The staff were absolutely fantastic and couldn't do enough to help us. They moved us room for a very small issue (a birds nest outside our room), which wasn't really an issue, but upgraded our room for our hassle of moving whilst they removed the nest. They also helped us on our last day, we had an issue with fueling the car at the station next door, the hotel refunded us our money and sorted it with them the next day, which wasn't anything to do with them. The only issue we had was a Que to check in. The location is absolutely beautiful, and the grounds are kept very well. The small pool area is a beautiful setting, and really peaceful. You must have a car to stay here, as it's not central for public transport. Don't be put off by the slight industrial area it's on, when in the hotel grounds you won't notice, and apart from a small couple of factories the area is still absolutely beautiful. We would like to say thank the staff for a beautiful stay, would 10/10 recommend. Our 2 year old boy also loved it!

I definitely recommend this hotel is you have a car or self-drive. At first entrance, we already been wowed by the landscape and the view of this hotel. They have ample parking space, friendly receptionist, spacious room, & great breakfast service! I would like to compliment staff that dedicates their effort in taking care of the gardening & landscape of this hotel as well. Everything looks like you are in paradise. Please take note as well that hotel operation will close from November until April every year as seasonal closing (please correct me if I am wrong).

When you arrive you think, where is it. There is an American diner and then round the side you think, oh no a Nightclub. Don't worry, large Car park across the other side is a set of gates. This is the hotel. Ring the bell and you are let in. Down a track, a little lake and there is the hotel. Looks great from the outside. Now don't expect modern, think Italian, it looks and feels it. Clean, comfortable. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Now heres the bit you will need to know. The main building has a restaurant and conference centre. Get a room out of there in one of the blocks. We were above the restaurant and it was noisy, plates, cutlery, people talking and smoking outside and when you have the windows open its not good. I'm not criticising the hotel, its something some may not like. Room was lovely, bed comfortable. Breakfast was very nice. A continental style but all fresh and very tasty. Its quite far to the centre of Pisa but location is quiet. Would I stay here again, yes I would, its a pity we only had one night and we were out of season as the pools were closed.
