Allow a bit more time to explore the town

Staying in a traditional house was an awesome experience. There are good restaurants nearby and the train station is only a few minutes away by foot. It snowed during our stay and fortunately there were heaters in every bedroom. The house is well equipped and the host was very kind and had a translator so we could communicate.

The bed is a futon bed. We liked the experience and it wasn’t our first time on a futon but our only issue was the traditional beaded pillow which we are not accustomed to. It was a little hard haha But if you are used to it you should be fine.

A real old historical house in the middle of the Nakasendo trail. Just magical. And the place is huge!

What was great for me, was not much for my husband. He was afraid all night of ghosts.

A very spacious traditional house, with a lot of facilities and a lot of rooms. We stayed here to do the Magome hike. The owner was able to suggests some restaurants and with the use of google translate was able to give us some general information about the house, parking and stuff like that.

Very cool older traditional home with an irori (hearth, not available for use, but pretty) in the enormous lofted main room. As it was already chilly, we used a side room as our living area (which we heated with a kerosene space heater, making it quite cozy) and two flanking side rooms as our bedrooms. Two toilets (one recently updated) and separate wet room with shower and soaking tub plus dressing area make it easy to get ready in the morning. Kitchen also updated. Abundant hot water and very good water pressure. Foam pads under futon made sleeping very comfortable. Extra warm blanket in addition to top futon made sleeping cozy.

A caution to anyone who doesn’t want to experience traditional Japanese lifestyle: stay elsewhere. We loved it, but not everyone will, especially in cold weather.

The location was fantastic, all the amenities you could need, and the charm and history of the property was abundant. And you could not ask for a nicer host, was very understanding of our late arrival and waited for hours for us to arrive with constant communication during our stay. Absolute gentleman!

An extraordinary experience. Stunning Edo period wooden house all to yourselves with all the necessary amenities. Lovely owner, limited English but with the online translator we had no issues.
