"Convenient and economical."

The owner/staff are friendly and very responsive. They care about visitors' well-being. The rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are clean. They provide the essentials that make the Guesthouse feel homey. The kitchen has the equipment you need for cooking your own meals. We enjoyed playing games around the kitchen table. Other guests were friendly and courteous. I appreciate that they had air conditioning units in each room because it was hot in Portland during our stay. The wifi is great. The bed was very comfortable. There is a Trader Joe's a half block away, plus good cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. It is only a mile to the entrance of Washington Park, which makes a nice morning walk.

The common areas had fans but no air conditioning. If you have difficulty with hot weather, it is hard to spend time in the common areas by the end of the day since the outside temps got into the high 80's. This is probably only an issue for a few weeks in the summer. Parking is a challenge. It is recommended to pay the daily $10 parking pass fee if you need to have a car. The pass covers a large number of blocks but it can take time to find a space.

I liked this property for me, but the stairs would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Breakfast is extremely limited, so be prepared to provide your own unless very simple cereal and milk is enough. Work was going on in the breakfast room, which they were very kind and apologetic about, but really should have been scheduled to be done after "breakfast" hours, no? Like starting at noon and not before? At least 11 am? Room was comfortable and clean, and the hosts are lovely. I felt, though, that there were so many do's and don'ts everywhere - "do not attempt to enter the room before 2 pm" and "do not ever park..." etc. I was really worried about making a mistake as a result, which wasn't as relaxed as I would have preferred. Again, the hosts were extremely kind in person, but the posted notices everywhere felt like a Boarding House, not as much like a "Guest" House. I love old houses and that's why I chose this one. But without any central living room or entry area, it's not as homey as I would have liked. Super close to Trader Joe's and lots and lots of really cute shops, bakeries, restaurants, bars, tea and coffee places that are obviously up and coming, but there are so many desperate and homeless folks in the neighborhood that it left me feeling very sad & mixed. Walkable to the famous bookstore and even to the beautiful Washington Park (if you don't mind uphill for that one) but only .9 miles from each. Just some heads-ups here. it was a very nice experience.

Thoughtful provisioning, comfortable bed, and not too hot on the third floor after a day in the high 80โ€™s.

"This is our new favourite place to stay in Portland!"

10.0

The guesthouse is on a quiet street in a lively neighbourhood with shops and restaurants and entertainment, close to a splendid park. Our room was quiet and our bed was comfortable. It was equipped with an air conditioner and fan which kept it cool during a heat wave. With a ratio of three bathrooms to four bedrooms sharing the former is painless. The guesthouse is immaculately clean, with clear printed instructions for helping to maintain it so for other guests. There is a well equipped kitchen with space for socializing. And as the manager lives onsite and is friendly and helpful any questions or issues can be quickly resolved. We really enjoyed our stay and hope the guesthouse is available next time we visit Portland.

Parking is only available on the street and by permit or payment. We were able to find a spot across the street, but as the neighbourhood is popular it might sometimes be more challenging to find a spot.
