Lagen Island Resort

I told Ms. Jen, the GM on our last day, that we have stayed at some of the finest hotels and resorts around the world, including self proclaimed seven star properties, but have never been treated so incredibly well as we were at El Nido Lagen Island. Our stay was not only very physically comfortable in our beautiful room and incredible grounds of the hotel, but the incredible levels of service are unmatched in our travel history. Many people say that they will return to a favorite property again, but this was not just another property, this became home, and home we will return again.

Heartfelt service with a smile, a diverse buffet that doesn't get boring, and a magical setting are the real pleasures. These don't compensate for an overpriced dysfunctional room. There's no place to put your stuff; their instant-coffee setup is on the bottom shelf of the closet near the floor; only one side of the bed has a nightstand; there's no seating other than on the bed; the lighting is inadequate; the a/c was marginal; the mattress & pillows uncomfortable, and an underlying smell of mildew permeate our clothing one week later due to the humidity and no ventilation. Beyond the functional obsolescence, the decor, other than beautiful wood floors, was the furthest thing from exotic or special, and felt very tired. I challenge the owner to stay here for 7 days with a child and 2 or 3 suitcases. He can send me $500 per night for the pleasure. For us, it felt like camping.

Spectacular views, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Buffet restaurant is Excellent but A’lacarte menu is limited and just okay. Staff’s very helpful and eager to provide information and support whenever possible. Special thanks to Hanniel. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to visit, I would recommended it to anyone who would want to experience a little piece of Paradise.

We enjoyed our 6-nights honeymoon at Lagen. Lagen is not luxurious but it is comfortable and things work. Service is proactive but not intrusive. People are friendly. There are rooms for improvement in term of service level compare to other more experienced resort locations but I think it has its charm.

The service at the hotel was impeccable. Highly recommend the stay. My only complaint is the number of ants around the property. I know that's hard to contain because of the natural surroundings, but it was a bit annoying if you spilled a drink or anything. Other than that, the food, drinks, and tours were all great, and the island was a wonderful experience.

Again beyond my expectation, this is my second visit at the resort with my family and I'm loooking forward to come back again next year.

I was born and raised in the Philippines, and somehow missed visiting this island while growing up. A friend recommended this resort, and it did not disappoint. We flew from Cebu Mactan airport to LIO airport in El Nido. Lagen hotel staff greeted us at the airport, and took care of our luggage. They drove us 20 mins to the port, and we rode a speed boat to Lagen resort for about 30 mins. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a song, dance and a refreshing buko pandan drink. We stayed at one of their water cottages that was so beautiful. The bed, pillows and sheets were super comfortable. It is super hot in El Nido so I wished they gave us 2 room keys to keep the AC running while we were out all day. I suppose the reason is to save electrical costs but it was mildly uncomfortable walking into a hot room. The staff was really the star at this resort - front desk staff, bartenders, tour guides, waiters, etc. Everyone made us feel very much at home, and appreciated during our stay. We purchased their supplemental package, which includes activities and meals since there's no other place to eat except at the resort. The buffet meals were just okay I thought. The drinks were reasonably priced but watered down so we asked for doubles. The bon voyage song and dance were also a nice touch - about 10-15 staff waved goodbye until we could no longer see them. We truly had a memorable experience at Lagen, and have already recommended it to many friends and family all over the world.
