My husband and I stayed at the hotel for two nights because a professional conference that I attended was hosted there. Upon arrival, the room was not ready. We were a bit early, about an hour, so we went walking around the lovely town and returned when it was check-in time. The room still wasn't ready. I had booked a suite so that my husband could comfortably telework while I attended the conference. I understand that it's a larger space. The front desk attendant told me that the hotel was booked solid and that they were behind in getting the rooms cleaned. It sounds like a staffing issue, and it was certainly not my problem. While I do not expect the rooms to be ready early, I do expect them to be ready on time. Our suite was lovely and spacious. When we finally got into it about 90 minutes after check-in, we were pleased that it was large and offered enough space for him to comfortably work and for us to relax after long days at my conference. We were also informed that there would be no housekeeping during our stay because it was only two days, but that if we needed towels, we could come to the front desk and request them. Again, probably an issue of understaffing. Every hotel room should be cleaned daily, at least the bathroom, and our suite had two bathrooms. The hotel served breakfast in the dining room, and the food was mediocre at best. We didn't visit the bar or have any other meals at the hotel. I was served dinner at a board meeting one evening, and that food was mediocre as well. The hotel staff were pleasant enough, but they definitely did not go out of their way. My organization likes to have our conference in Staunton because it is such an amazing and beautiful place. They wanted to stay downtown, and the hotel was definitely in a central location. But I wish they would consider other options next time because for the price, the service and accommodations were just OK. If we have our conference there again, I hope they've improved the staffing and the service.

We love everything about this property especially it's location. The history the architecture of the building is amazing.

I didn't really care for the fact that they did not use fitted sheets on the mattresses. There were a few things missed by housekeeping in our bathroom, but not really a big deal. No bathroom fan to take out the moisture and steam while you're showering. And we really would have appreciated a small continental breakfast to be included in the room fee. Other than that we love this place and have stayed here a few times before.
