The place is as advertised, so as long as an Ecolodge is what you want, it's nice. While there is electricity, running water and AC available, rooms are basic, just a bed, a nightstand and some shelves, and the bathroom. No TV, fridge, or water cooler, which is one thing that would have been nice (don't drink tap water in DR). The pool is ok, and there are nice places to hang out or eat right over a small cliff with the waves crashing right below, which is really relaxing. The private beach is right in front and is fine for sunbathing, but is rocky in the water and the waves are choppy, so not ideal for swimming. The staff is nice and the restaurant serves basic food but pretty good overall. Be aware this is an isolated resort. There is another restaurant at the one other resort right next to it, and a pizzeria and a mini-mart at the entrance from the main road, which is probably a 15 minute walk. If you want any variety beyond that, you need transportation. Uber is available and inexpensive if you have cell data there, or they will call a cab for you. Be careful renting cars, they are super cheap at the airport, but they force you to buy their insurance there, which is not cheap. Sosua is 10 min west, with nice beaches for swimming and a touristy downtown with bars and restaurants and casinos (lots of prostitutes though). Cabarete is 10 min east, and has a great strip of restaurants right on the beach, by Kite beach, which is also very nice.

Staying at this hotel was such a fun experience. We loved the open-air atmosphere, and it's clear that the owners and staff take great care to make sure it's a good experience for their guests. We have stayed here once before, and will likely come back again.

The Ecolodge Maravilla was the perfect place to find serenity, natural beauty, and restorative peace. Michael, the manager from France, was fabulously helpful with recommendations, speaks excellent English, and was always ready to provide superior customer service. We LOVED the rustic treehouse accommodations, surfing at Encuentro Beach in the morning (a mere 15 minute walk down the beach), laying in the hammock on the balcony relaxing, eating the delicious complimentary breakfast, and listening to the waves lulling us to sleep at night with all of the windows open. We loved this beautiful treasure of a place so much that we extended our stay for another day two separate times and continued to reminisce about the Ecolodge throughout our vacation after leaving. Thank you Ecolodge for being a highlight of our vacation in the Dominican Republic. Hope to be back soon :)

What a relaxed and tranquil place if you want to live in nature, with nature. Maybe only the chirping birds in the trees will keep you up at night. Don't expect luxury, the breeze from the ocean through the tree house is the natural air condition and keeps it nice cool. The staff is so nice and funny. One will forget the world around.

The room we were in was fantastic, a great getaway with a real adventurous / back to nature feel. The staff were amazing, the manager Michael in particular went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had a good stay. I couldn’t praise him higher. Everyone was friendly and helpful, would definitely return if / when I am back in the DR Thank you to everyone who made the trip so enjoyable!
