Myself and my partner have just returned home from a week stay at this hotel (end of September into early October). We changed up some money at the airport so that we could settle the tourist tax on arrival at the hotel (£62). Our private transfer took 1 hour. We arrived at 1am and some food and water had been left in our room. The hotel itself is nice, but our room was bog standard. Bathroom run down and the floor tiles grubby looking. Nothing like the photos we had seen when booking. The maid came in and cleaned our room daily. The aircon wasn’t working and when questioned, they said it had all been turned off. We left the balcony door open constantly. Free WiFi but it only worked on the ground floor and even then, the connection was very hit and miss.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the waiters and bar staff. The animation team were great, loved a chat and a laugh, but they do insist that you join in with the activities and dances etc which is not great for those who don’t feel confident. They also try and convince you to buy T shirts like theirs (we were given 2 T shirts that we said we didn’t want to order, told they wouldn’t be ordered and then charged £30). The entertainment is good and varied, but some things are the same everyday. They do all work very hard for very little pay, so it is nice that they get to know everyone and make such an effort to keep you laughing and smiling!
The weather was nice and warm when the sun was out, but it was quite cloudy/overcast most days unfortunately. I was only bitten once by a mosquito, but there were lots of flies around the pool and in the restaurant which became annoying. The pool was nice and a decent size.
There wasn’t an awful lot of variety food wise, but I am a basic eater anyway, so stuck with pasta or pizza. My partner would’ve liked more options. The alcohol is very basic like beer, wine, vodka and rum. All made very strong, I was asking for little alcohol. There are some basic cocktails available on all inclusive and more well known cocktails available at a charge.
Towels were not provided, so make sure you take some towels for the pool or beach. We didn’t go to the beach, but did take a swim in the sea when we were on the pirate boat trip and it was lovely.
The pirate boat trip was good, but they let so many people on that it was crowded. The staff went round to everyone at the end and asked for a tip. When we got off the boat, a man put parrots and falcons on our shoulders and then tried to charge us £20. We also done the quad bike ride which was fun, we both really enjoyed it! Sadly, we saw lots of stray, hungry, poorly animals and chickens cooped up in metal cages as we were going round on the quads. This was horrible to see and upset me. I know this is normal for people who live in some countries, but it broke my heart to see so many animals suffering.
My partner had a back massage at the hotel and I had a facial. Both treatments were reasonably priced. The facial was painful and uncomfortable as they focus more on prodding around with a metal tool. It wasn’t relaxing like the facials I normally have, but my skin did feel good afterwards.
There are quite a few shops around, but you have to be very careful as they lure you in and try to charge you a fortune! You are not left to just browse, and feel pressured to buy things. One shop in particular we had already spent 60 odd pounds but the man became unhappy that I wouldn’t buy a handbag on the way out. I said I would prefer the bag if it was black and he dropped the price to £10. I explained I don’t wear tan colour and he told me to just buy it and throw it in the bin then as it’s only £10! The shop at the hotel is lovely, you are left alone and their prices are very reasonable. You also have to watch for scammers when you are out as they will say “I work at your hotel, don’t you remember me?” and then ask you for money as a tip. Also, the taxis and horse carriages will keep stopping and asking you to ride with them. You just have to be strict and say no if you don’t want to.
You basically need to take money everywhere you go as you will be talked into something. It is a shame that their pay rates are so poor, but you are made to feel as if you have all the money in the world and should spend it or tip everyone. We did tip one waiter as he looked after us with our drinks in the restaurant all week, and kindly offered to reserve us a table on our last evening and decorated it.
Overall, it was a nice holiday and good to experience Tunisia, but we felt ready to go home from day 5. I would say this hotel is more like 3 than 4 star and personally, we wouldn’t return to the country. Sorry for the long review and the negatives parts, but I have tried to cover everything and be honest. Everyone has different opinions and personal preferences!
