Makai Beach Lodge

Staff was very nice and helpful. Pool and Hot Tub was clean as well as the room. I would stay here again.

The bed was not the greatest

The staff were lovely and tried very hard. However the property was in very poor condition. The staff did the best they could with what was there, but the owners need to invest some money to bring it up to a clean and maintained standard. There is ample parking and easy to get to with buses and the beach front position is ideal. However the upkeep and maintenance was well below standard. Simple low cost options like a powerwash to the outside of the building and some paint to the insides would have made a huge difference. A seamstress could have fixed the curtains as well

It was great that there wasnt many people there so it was quieter than usual. I've stayed here b4. Loved that it accommodated dogs & now you can take your dogs on a leash on the beach!. Didnt have maid service to clean your room. They only give you more towels if you need it. They mainly clean rooms after they are vacated. I had to ask them to please come sweep the room & clean the bathroom. You always bring in lots of sand when you stay on the beach. The maid was very accommodating. They are in the process of if redoing the property from what I heard. They have an elevator which helps but the walls were gutted so it looked like they were going to get a new one??? For breakfast, they didnt have waffles for 3 of the 5 days we were there. Would be nice to have a meat wether its bacon or sausage or biscuits & gravy!

Bed bugs. Wasn’t able to get a refund from Expedia. But at least I saw them before we got comfortable. Great location. Disgusting facility. We were in our room for about 5 minutes before checking out and going to the Hilton (which was fabulous and right next door). Noticed that our nasty room was rented out the next day. I’m just thankful my desire to be cheap didn’t cost us more in the long run by bringing those critters home.

I could not rave any more on the staff!. They were amazing for what they are given to work with. However, very disappointed in the room. Dirty. Dated. Disgusting. . No security bar on sliding glass door and we were on the ground floor . It was a convenient place to stay to visit our grandkids, walk out the roon and we were on the beach. Pool was clean and beautiful.. a fresh coat of outdoor painting in a light airy color, and get the rooms and bathrooms updated and this place would be amazing.

We had a great view from the balcony. The room was not in good condition. Definitely needs updating. We had a live roach in one room, dried gum stuck to the floor by the bed and cigar remnants on the balcony. The elevator was tiny and in very bad condition. When we checked in I was told one room number and given the keys to another room. The keys did not work in either room. Had to get keys remade several times before we could get in the correct room.

I always enjoy the Makai but this time things were a bit different. I didn't like the fact of having to wear a name bracelet & i didnt like that my husband had to park his truck across the street when there was still plenty of parking in the hotel parking lot. The room had a king bed & thats all. No couch, not even a comfortable chair. The linens were definitely washed with bleach but the bleach smell was a bit overwhelming. 2nd floor definitely lacking.
