Makai Beach Lodge

My room had a hole in the bathroom door, the tv remote was broken in half, AC did not work well, no blankets, when requesting blankets they had stains and smelled like vomit.

We had a beach front location. Aside from the view being amazing, the room was excellent. The property is undergoing remodeling, which is being done under the new ownership. Bonus is that it’s pet friendly.

You get what you pay for. It is run down and in need of some TLC. However, great location right on the beach, nice pool, good breakfast are all worth the price. I would stay here again.

It was a comfortable stay. We made a last minute decision to get away for a couple of days. We've frequented this establishment several times in the past. Check-in was easy and friendly. Parking is limited, but we made do. Breakfast was the basics with cereal, bagels, pastries, and a make your own waffle station. It was clean and the attendants were friendly. Our room was dated, but clean and comfortable. The king-size bed had a dip in it, but isn't horrible yet. Husband thought it was on the softer side. Bathroom was small and had a mildewed/stained shower liner. The toilet had difficulty flushing and was troublesome all weekend. It was reported and an attempt was made to fix it but nothing was resolved. We reported it again at check-out. The room had a kitchenette that was functional, but lacked in basic utensils. One plate, one cup, just a few pot/pan options... We didn't utilize it other than the refrigerator. The pool was basically clean, but the residue on the side (oily residue from bodys/sunscreen) hasn't been scrubbed off in a while and stained my husband's suit when he sat on the ledge. He enjoyed the hot tub several times. Kids were being kids, but mostly watched by their adults. You can tell improvements have been made since last summer and we would visit again in the future.

Front desk staff was really kind. The room was decent enough for where it is located, I would definitely book again. Affordable.

Horrible

They called less than 30 mins after our confirmed reservatio and talked me into changing rooms (505 at the lodge) Apparently they over booked. Told me they would give me a room at the lodge with a patio and that there were only 3 rooms there due to remodeling. It was FILTHY!! I had to clean the stove, counter and wash dishes just to cook. In the bathroom there wash a used wash cloth hanging on the shower curtain rod. When I reported this mess to the front deck they said GROSS and they would report it to the cleaning manager.No offer to put us in a clean room or anything. The bed was like sleeping on a board. Note:the breakfast is NOT diabetic or diet friendly. I asked about that and was told they are scaling back, so I suggest taking your own or plan to go out. Thank goodness we stopped and got eggs and stuff. Positive is the desk staff was very nice and the property is right on the beach,in the dog friendly and drivable section,but has went way down hill from years past. I was sad to see the difference. I would suggest not staying on the lodge side until they are done remodeling. was FILTHY Ihad to clean juT to cook.

It needs alot of work done.

The entire buildings are rundown and gross. The room was marginally clean, corners were skipped, floors were dirty/sandy, i get its a beach hotel but it should still be clean, had to wear socks to walk around, bedspread had a stain manager switched it out for another. The elevator is so sketchy. Honestly if my room was cheaper it would have been ok, but it was too high for what i got. Its got to be old, blinds in room wrecked need curtains instead.
