Carlton Hotel

Séjour très agréable, personnel attentionné et disponible.

The Internet is horrible. Room service staff and restaurant staff very rude. They can see that one is on the phone and they will rudely interrupt. I am sitting here trying to connect to the most basic of internet pages and it is terrible. If this is what a business trip is like, I will never reccomend this hotel. I spent a day at another hotel nearby and the internet was fantastic.

We get to stay here twice. It provides all the necessities a good hotel should have. We felt relaxed, relieved and at ease. The traffic in and out of Tana is bad. That is probably the only holdback I have. I wish I have more time to shop in the hotel. Twice when I stayed in the hotel, the shops are either not open or closed. There seem to have many varieties of shops and I would really buy something from them. The cashier is also nice enough to make changes for me. It seems small but it is difficult to do when I travel in Madagascar.

No complaints. Always enjoy our Carlton stays.

On the positive side, the hotel is conveniently located to businesses, restaurants and supermarket. The staff were attentive, the meals were good (both the breakfast buffet and lunch/dinner ordered off of the menu). The room was comfortable and clean. Needing improvement: The internet was nearly unusable: difficult to download or send files in email, difficult to use voice Skype, long time to load some web pages, connection comes and goes randomly. For our meeting, everyone had to have the same lunch dish, no individual choices or even having half and half. The meeting room had a partition halfway through the room that made it impossible to use both halves of the room, so all participants had to be squeezed into one half.

We took advantage of being picked up by the Carlton staff at the airport since the Air France flight we take from Paris always arrives close to midnight. The airport experience was much better than in past years but it is always nice to arrive to see someone waiting for us with our name in a card and be safely escorted to the hotel. This is one on the main reasons I stay at the Carlton. We stayed one night before driving to Toamasina for a few days and then came back to the Carlton for a week. The staff is always very pleasant, the beds are comfortable and it is centrally located. We will certainly stay there again.

A decent hotel with a very good kitchen. It is let down by carelessness in housekeeping and being quiet to the point of boring. The restaurant, bar and pool do not seem to attract people other than guests. The location is inconvenient with nothing of interest within walking distance. Partly as a result of this the hotel could do with having a shop selling the basics and some snacks. Next time I will look for something smaller and in the old town
