The Chequers Hotel

Staff were helpful and nice. Located near Main Street. Breakfast was excellent thank you.

My room was in direct hot sun and located away from main building. Wheeling my wheeled suitcase was bit hazardous with metal cover dips, steps and humps in the way..be careful

Location and free parking.

All sockets in the bedroom were on the wall opposite the bed. No air con!

room 115 toilet constantly running all night secret garden needs attention poor maintenance water took ages to heat up a lot of stairs bit an old building

Cooked breakfast was good with a variety of other food choices.

For a double bedroom, there was little room to move around. There was no sub-title facility on the TV. The chair could not be moved realistically due to lack of space to watch TV. The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets were not fresh and ironed. The A/C unit ought to be on the floor not the dressing table. We should have requested an upgrade but were advised a little too late.

Lovely staff, clean, very comfortable, especially on such a very hot weekend!

With such lovely weather we wanted to sit out in the evening, however the garden was rather untidy and the furniture could have done with a wipe/sweep down. I know leaves fall off trees but a quick sweep would have made all the difference. That being said it’s a lovely out door space and we enjoyed the water features

A bit old looking needed to be updated

I know Newbury well and it was in the centre of town so ideal for what I wanted.

I was on the 2nd floor, 4 flights of stairs to climb and then a little corridor to walk down. I’m 6’3, there was about an inch clearance between top of my head and the ceiling in both the corridor and my room (I actually banged my head on the sprinkler). The shower is over a bath so I’m raided even further, the shower head came up to about my shoulder so I had to bend forward to wash my hair.

As always, receptionist very pleasant and helpful.

Wasn't aware room would be outside the back of main hotel basically in the car park. Room was also stifling hot when I checked in at 11am as I had prior notified. Windows had been left open and air fan was running when I arrived but not certainly didn't match my previous stays at this hotel.
