Newport News Marriott at City Center

Friendly staff and very attentive!

Hotel was clean and in a great location, close to food, a movie theater, and for our stay the hospital. Hotel staff was friendly and the bar and particularly Breakfast service from Vivian and Javis (cook) were exceptional. I’d stay here again.

Wonderful bed & pillows! even has a " sleeping" spray to lightly spray your pillows. Has fridge, hair dryer, coffee maker. The on-site restaurant breakfast "All American" served to us by THE BEST WAITRESS EVER!! VIVIAN!! was Alot of potatos, bacon etc so if you don't have a large appetite might want to stick with the oatmeal which my bil says was very good.

I needed to stay in the area for business and chose this Marriott property. I arrived rather late in the evening and was checked in pretty quickly. Service at check-in was great, the guy who took care of me was helpful and friendly. The place seemed packed as the lobby bar was a roar from all the people in it. Even though I got there around 8:30PM, he told me the lounge was still serving dinner. After getting to the room and unpacking a little, I went to the lounge after 9PM and they were just packing up the food. I don’t think I’ve seen a lounge serving food this late, which is good to know. I wasn’t hungry, so I didn’t need anything other than a drink. The food looked pretty good too, I think I saw beef tips being served. The room was the typical, older, needing to be refurbished Marriott room I’ve been getting lately. So, nothing impressive there. Self-parking here was in an adjacent garage which has a horrible smelling elevator, as it seems people dragged trash bags into it and there was coffee + trash sludge all over the floor and the floor was nasty, sticky, and it made the place smell – they really should clean this mess up! The biggest issue I experienced was standing in the shower for about 5+ mins the next morning trying to get the water to not be scalding. Even when I turned it all the way down it was scalding hot. I was wet from being in it, or I would have gone to the desk to get another room to take a shower in, as I needed to get to work. I banged on the faucet a few times and heard a “ting” sound and then the cold water started flowing… then I had the reverse problem – ridiculous! They really need to fix crap like this and if housekeeping was doing their job, they would have found it and reported it to maintenance to prevent it from being an issue for the guests. When in the area next, I’d probably find a better maintained property to stay in.

The hotel itself was great, vut the bed linesns were not freshly washed. i always travel with my own blankets to ensure i can get a good night's sleep

I was a little upset at first because they gave me the wrong room. But they did correct it. Only other disappointment was there was no soap in the bathroom. The hotel n view was very lovely. Very quiet.

Great hotel and wonderful staff. Vivian and Shirley are great in the restaurant. Highly recommend this hotel perfect location. Close to restaurants and activities.good place to stay for a day trip to the beach. Great breakfast and fountain views.

Felicia was the best!!! We had food and drinks at the bar after a long day of travel and it was perfect. It’s in the great area full of things to do and pretty area. Enthusiastically recommend if you are in the area to at least stop into the bar restaurant for food and drinks.
