"Rooms need updating."

6.0

This was my 4th time staying in the Alfagar and unfortunately will not be returning unless the rooms are updated. We stayed in 113 and for some reason we could not get rid of the flies. You expect things like this to happen but not constantly. The pools are fantastic, food is great and facilities the best around but the rooms are a let down considering the cost for same. Thanks to the Alfagar for wonderful memories over the years but until there is some investment in the Apts we will not be returning.

"Alfagar village"

10.0

Amazing place plenty to do excellent food at the bars.Went self catering so I can’t comment on half or full board but I can’t see it being any different than in the bars dotted around the complex.Ideal for families with young children and teenagers. If you want a bit more lively a 10 minute walk or 5euro taxi to new town where you can find multiple bars and restaurants with competitive pricing (some offering pints for 3 to 4 euros) I recommend eddys ,hangover bar. Also try the cottage, coco loco and Erin’s bar but you’ll need a taxi for these.Try the strip and old town but only through the day.

"Cockroaches every night and poor hygiene"

4.0

Plenty of Cockroaches and the staff are indifferent and find it normal. Cockroaches also in the cutlery drawers and in the fridge! They also weirdly charge you for pool towels and then charge you to change the towel too. They are expecting guests to continue using dirty towels when hygiene should be of utmost important! At such high prices per night in addition to the cockroaches the rooms were more like a cheap airbnb, very dated and the wardrobes are probably 20years old and look like the doors or drawers will fall off anytime. We reported around 40 cockroaches in the living room on the first night but they couldn’t guarantee there won’t be cockroaches if we changed rooms. That’s ridiculous for the price! We have been to the Algarve atleast 9 times in July and this is the first time we stayed at this resort, it was a massive mistake. The resort itself is fine with a good pool but all sun beds are reserved with no one on them for nearly 4 hours. We didn’t eat at the resort as it seems unhygienic and probably cockroaches in the kitchens too. Speaking to other guests at the resort we were told the restaurant food is very low standard. There are definitely cheaper and better resorts around and as we travel as a family globally few times a year, this resort is at the bottom of the list. We did read others reporting cockroaches in their reviews but we thought it would have been sorted by now but it hasn’t been sorted.

"Noisy"

4.0

Pros: the number of pools was brilliant. We didn’t even need to go across the road to the other two pools. Food was good. We mostly ate in Buganvilia and Giovannis. Cons: the noise from the nighttime entertainment. We have young kids who need sleep and our first apartment was right next to Buganvilia where the music was played loudly until after 11pm. After two nights of my children crying because they couldn’t sleep from the noise I asked to be moved. 2nd apartment wasn’t as nice (worn paintwork, small amount of ants and mosquitos and noise from upstairs) but I’d put up with it for a nights sleep. The first night there was some music but it finished early. 2nd night was very loud music but finished around 10, not great but better than what we had. Final night was the worst yet and the music was so loud it was almost like it was outside our front door. All the reviews I read before booking said how quiet and family friendly the village was so it was a real shock. I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known it was going to be so noisy. Couldn’t wait to get home for a full nights sleep.

"Lovely stay for our family, a few tweaks and it could be somewhere exceptional."

8.0

We had a wonderful stay at Alfagar Village, booking a sea view apartment in the village area. The variety of swimming pools was excellent—thanks to the numerous options, none ever felt overcrowded. Our favorite dining spot on-site was The Cafeteria Restaurant: friendly staff, delicious food and drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere by a lovely pool. The resort caters well to young families, with plenty of opportunities for children to meet and play together. One highlight for us was the afternoon Parrot Show, where guests could hold the animals and purchase a beautiful photo souvenir (for a small fee). The location is fantastic—just a short distance from Olhos de Água, a charming and quaint town with excellent restaurants. We highly recommend heading there instead of Albufeira, which felt more like a party destination and wasn't to our taste. A few areas where our experience could have been improved: Late check-in at 4:30 p.m. was frustrating, especially after a morning of travel in hot weather. We overheard this was due to late check-outs, but it made things difficult—we had to dig into our luggage in the car just to get swimwear so we could cool off in the pool. The laundrette facilities were inadequate. With only two washing machines (both quite dirty and constantly in use), doing laundry during our 10-day stay was a challenge. More machines—and better maintenance—are definitely needed for a resort of this size. The Bougainvillea Restaurant was a major disappointment. The food was greasy, made with poor-quality ingredients, and generally unappetizing. We weren’t alone in this opinion—others we spoke to had similar feedback. Off-site restaurants were far superior. While the apartment itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, the sofa bed for the children was outdated and uncomfortable. A refresh here would make a big difference. Final thoughts: Despite a few shortcomings, we really enjoyed our time at Alfagar Village and would be happy to return. With a few small improvements, this resort could go from great to exceptional.

The view from our terrace was amazing and worth the stay. The rooms were a good size and had ever hung we needed. The check in was easy and the digital bracelets instead of keys was a bonus.
