The Vintage House - Douro

This was a very beautiful hotel. The rooms were good size, updated and renovated nice safe shower, coffeemaker and tea kettle in room, comfortable king bed. Beautiful view of the riverfront overlooking the gardens great breakfast buffet. We ate breakfast out in the gardens overlooking the river, extremely helpful staff, upscale restaurants on site, which we had reservations for and had one of the most amazing meals. We only stayed one night but wish we had stayed longer. Felt like I could have spent a day enjoying the balcony and grounds. Lots of wineries with wine tours and tastings near by.

If you are sensitive to sound when you sleep bring earplugs. There are street dogs nearby that bark at night. The room temperature was stuffy and warm. We weren’t able to sleep with the door open at night for cooler air due to the loud barking dogs. The hotel is located on the river which is nice. The hotel charges 60 euros for a rollaway bed which is ridiculous. The bar and breakfast food were really good.

Location, the staff, the breakfast and old world charm in a restored wine cellar on the Douro River made this a beautiful 2nd honeymoon location for us! Can’t wait to visit again!

The Vintage House was a great place to stay while visiting the Douro Valley. It was quiet and we were able to relax while visiting the local wineries. There were a few wineries within easy walking distance which made this a great place to stay. The room was spacious and had a great view of the river. We were not planning on staying for breakfast while we were there, but the train did not come that morning and we ended up having my favorite breakfast of the entire trip. There were many options with some of the freshest fruit I have ever had. Just a heads up though if you are visiting during off season the train is not as consistent as it is during the summer so be prepared to take a Bolt/Uber if the train does not come-- Bolt was super easy to use but cost us a little more than we were planning with the train. The front desk was very helpful though with assisting us in getting back to the city when we realized the train wasn't going to come that day.
