Cairns Gateway Resort

We had a terrible stay, checked in for 6 nights to a dirty poorly maintained room with an aircon that sounded like a jet engine. Had to call after hours and were moved to a different room with a quieter aircon. We were told we may need to move rooms again due to other guests being booked into the new room.

New room had an uncomfortable bed with thin pillows (we had to buy our own) and the worst cockroach infestation I've seen. We love in north qld so we are used to the normal flying ones, but these were tiny ones that scattered when the lights turned on. At one point we counted 20 visible. We couldn't avoid stepping on them when walking around the room. We couldn't stand to stay more than 3 nights as we felt itchy in the bed, and were told no refunds but forfeited our last 3 nights for a good nights sleep.

Cool place. BEAUTIFUL Pool. Some unsavory characters around but that is part and parcel of staying in Cairns.

Bed sheets and blanket needed to be upgrade to a softer type

Staying there to catch up with family at the Big 4 park next door so location was good.

My fridge had not been turned on in the room and I did not realise this until a family member looked at it. Should have been turned on prior to my arrival.

None.

It was a really bad experience. The door lock was broken. We had no shampoo. We asked for more shampoo, but there was no staff to help. The kettle smelled very bad. The room had a bad smell. Awefull.

There was zero reception staff during our 5 day stay there believe or not. Towles were not changed even once after we called them three times in three days. Aircon was right above the bed with huge noise causing poor sleep. They gave us a tiny bit of shampoo which finished at first night. No dental pack, no shaving pack no hand wash in toilet. No room service. Each time we called the remote reception said they wiĺl do something next day and they did not. Just horrible experience. DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RUIN YOUR TRIP.

It was easy to find, had a welcoming reception area , plenty of parking available

Quite dated room Was on ground floor so quite a few bugs ( but it is on the side of a rainforest in wet season , so is to be expected)

Aircon is too noisy and outdated.
