Hotel Maria del Carmen Merida

The place had a stinky smell, especially in the elevator and room that fortunately was not always there. Some confusion initially about the breakfast that was included but not the buffet ... TV only has about 10 Spanish stations, not really an issue as we were not there yo watch tv, WiFi was spotty despite having many connection points, it would so.etimes drop.

Ive been there many times. The staff is great. The other guest were friendly. The service in the resturant was amazing considering some rather large groups were being fed. Great planning on the staffs part. Over all it was nice.

Pros: The room was spacious. The food was delicious, especially the weekend buffets. Great price for the stay. Close enough walking distance to the center of town but far away enough to get a restful nights sleep. The front desk was very helpful, made checking in and out a breeze. Everything is a few blocks walking distance: zócal, bus stations going to progresso or Cancun. Cons: The bathroom is a bit small and the door to the bathroom is right next to bed. Awkward to get into and out of. If they moved the bed over to the opposite side of the room it would help a lot. There is no ventilation/fan in the bathroom. The pool dining area needs work. There was a huge crack and hole in our table. There was also a crazy hole in the ground next to the table. If you don't pay attention your chair leg could go in there as your scooting closer to the table and fall in. Not safe. The room could use a fridge.

The important things are provided. (cold air conditioning and hot water) The rooms are comfortable and clean. Pool bar and restaurant are open until 11PM. The plastic tables with umbrellas that are poolside need updating. Very friendly staff. Not many foreign visitors, but we were treated well.

Easy to find and great value, would recommend to friends and family. Veey cool pool and bar. Friendly employees and very clean.

Most of the staff is friendly. the restaurant food isn't that good, it lacks taste. I would be extremely careful with the lougage we had a bad experience where the housekeeper went through my wife's luggage and stole some items we contacted the front desk and asked to speak with a manager and there was never one available, the hotel isn't that bad, we had a great stay with exception of the theft we experienced

Very authentic... not an American comfy hotel... but we loved it. Resturant was awesome and cheap. All employees were friendly even if they didn't understand English. Everyone tried to make our stay great. Perfectly located to see all of the old historical places but not be surrounded by tourists just 4 blocks away. Pool was beautiful as well. Only problem is that the bed was hard. Yet we slept quite well despite of the bad. Showers were great. AC worked fantastically!

If you want to save money and have a comfortable stay, you won't be too disappointed here. It is an old hotel, but the staff is working hard to please. I chose this place for the prices and the pool. One morning there was live music in the restaurant and there was a nice buffet. Very few "Gringos" here, but the staff was very nice about our lack of Spanish. Alan and Jonny {the bellmen} could communicate in English and were very helpful. My wife and I never felt unsafe here. I would stay here again.

The lady at the front desk was rude upon arrival. Luckily the bellhop was a lot kinder and helped us to our room (he also helped us with a car rental, which was very nice). The room is basic, except our comforter had lipstick stains on it and our bathroom was locked from the inside (so we had to wait 30 minutes for them to fix it in order to shower). There is a parking lot on site which is also a bonus (if you plan on driving there or renting a car). The elevator was junky and the pool was way too crowded and loud with kids, so we never used it. The hotel is about 3 or 4 blocks from the main plaza, so it's convenient and there is also a convenience store a few blocks away for necessities. Overall rated a 3 because it wasn't horrible but it wasn't very nice either... just middle of the road.
