Herzen House

Enjoyed our stay! Two couples in 2 rooms for 4 nights. Rooms small by American standards, 1 shower very small. But the ladies at the front desk were beyond helpful, answered every question, ordered taxis, gave directions, offered discount cards at local restaurants, spoke very good English. Breakfast plentiful and good variety. Tea and coffee available all day in breakfast room.

We were very pleased with our stay at Herzen House. It was an easy walk to many of the key tourist sites in St Petersburg, the staff were very courteous and welcoming and spoke English! We used their free computer every day to check our messages and confirm museum schedules, etc. The breakfast variety was sufficient for our family, though our kids now say that they weren't happy with only two choices of cereal, but we were only there for three breakfasts. I imagine if we had been staying for a week it might have gotten old. The mattresses were super basic, but did the job - we all slept well and had no problems falling asleep. Only problem with sleep was you can hear everything from the floor above and rooms nearby, plus the hall. Am guessing that is why they put us at the end of the hall because we have two small kids, and we did our best to keep them quiet to not disturb other visitors. We loved that they had a water cooler where we could fill our bottles periodically throughout our stay. Only disappointment for our kids was that we had read that they had some English-language TV stations, but only one we found was CNN, which did not interest them. That said, there was a lovely channel with Russian dance that we watched quite often, it was nice to have exposure to their culture in our down time! Only other comment is if you are arriving by train from Moscow, like we did, the walk is pretty far with small kids, but a nice intro to Nevsky Prospect!

Nothing in this area is cheap but compared to others I think it is a good value.

A pleasant experience that lets you get away from the standard branded hotels. Mainly used by locals, more like a B & B than a full service hotel but they did provide all the necessary services. Clean, language was not a problem and the location is great.

the location is really good. surrounded by a lot of good restaurants and main attractions. there is a mini supermarket opposite to the hotel which allows you to buy any refreshments if you need any. the hotel room itself is very clean and comfortable. the toilet has floor heating which makes it even more comfortable. receptionists are very nice and they are always happy to help with adequate english :) overall, happy with this stay!

The Herzen House is exceptionally well-run, perfectly located and staffed by helpful and polite staff. It is not luxurious, but you will have everything you need, the room will be very clean and you will sleep soundly.
