Mercure Newbury West Grange Hotel

Room was of good in size and double bed was comfortable.

The retro style bathroom was disfunctional and not clean, with black mould in shower. Also spent one of the hottest nights ever, my wife and I could not sleep because the air conditioning did not work, had to place an upright fan against the open window to try and cool a bit. We live in Spain , so we know of heat and that room was like sleeping in a sauna, some people like that but not us...!! Also, room safe had no batteries and didn't work.

We asked for and booked a twin but had a king size bed

My partner got mild food poisoning from fish & chips – was ill during the night. Couldn't eat for 48 hours after. Staff were apologetic, but not a great experience. Heading for a cruise next day and if my partner had been any worse, we would not have been able to drive to Southampton and would have missed the ship.

Very friendly staff, we arrived earlier than expected and the reception staff went out of their way to enable us to check in early. Evening meal and breakfast were both good quality.

We had a good time at this hotel. We booked with Great Little Breaks for a weekend with all meals and some drinks included. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated. The staff were all very friendly. The food was excellent and big meals. The breakfast was self service with everything we wanted and more. They gave us a free upgrade to a lovely large family room. They have a nice garden to walk around and sit outside. We loved it all and it was great value for money.

Stayed for a night on business - if id arrived at 11pm gone to bed and left at 6 it might've been OK. But.... The room was ok, not badly appointed, although the trees outside are so close they blew in the window. If they cut them down you could see over the fields which would be a lot better. Ate in the 'restaurant ' but the meal I had (keema curry) was bland and not good! The restaurant is soulless and just not welcoming. Eating breakfast was like being in a morgue and ingredients clearly cheap. We found a pub 5 minutes away and really wish we'd eaten there! Won't stay here again when in the area.
