"Beautiful historic Inn with friendly owner in scenic Newport"

10.0

We were warmly welcomed by Bryan, the owner, who gave us a brief tour of the Inn, shared its history, and offered brandy and cookies. Our room—the Isaac Room—was spacious and elegant, featuring a plush king bed, oversized bathroom with a large shower, a cozy gas fireplace, and windows overlooking Newport’s charming harbor and historic streets. Breakfast in the beautifully decorated dining room included fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, and a delicious homemade spread with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and French toast. The Inn’s ideal location makes exploring town easy, with downtown just steps away. We’re already looking forward to returning and experiencing their festive Christmas décor.

"Wonderful, Welcoming Stay in Newport!"

10.0

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sarah Kendall House during our recent road trip through New England. Of all our inns across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, this was our favorite. Our room was charming, clean, comfortable and spacious, and the overall house and garden were warm and welcoming. Bryan, Fran and their team were kind and hospitable, giving us great suggestions for things to do, not just during our stay in Newport but also onto our next location. Breakfast was a full spread of delicious options -- hot, cold, savory and sweet. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Great location. Nice experience staying in an historic home furnished with antiques. Amazing breakfast made to order. The owners and staff were friendly and informative. Nice touch having a decanter of brandy available in the living room. Definitely recommend staying here !

"Horrible Service!!"

2.0

Unfortunately this was a less than desirable experience! I booked through 3P website and when I called to confirm they told me they wouldn't honor the reservation. They would not give a reason or aid with alternative arrangements. If I had not called to confirm then I would have never been told and they would have refused me a room. Despite having a confirmation email and paying, don't stay here if you want to stay in Newport!!

"Nice location for walking around Newport"

8.0

We had a fun weekend in Newport, and the Sarah Kendall House is close to restaurants and shops. When we checked in, we were directed to climb several flights of stairs to our room (the website does mention it's on the 3rd floor, just be ready to carry your own bags if you've booked the Hideaway). If there's no space in the adjacent parking area, you'll get a pass that will allow you to park on the street; we had no trouble getting a spot directly in front of the B&B. There were chocolate chip cookies available in the main house, and a Keurig. There's no guest happy hour or other nibbles, but we weren't looking for that anyway. Bottled water was provided in the mini-fridge located in the room closet, and was replaced during our stay. The Hideaway room has a very, very firm mattress and pillow combo, if that's your preference. The B&B was quiet throughout our stay, and the room and bathroom were very clean. We appreciated the in-room air conditioning unit during the hot weather. We noted that one of the window blinds was broken (the one with the A/C unit), but everything else in the room worked as intended (we did not try the TV). Breakfast was the highlight of our SKH experience. Mary fills the dining table with fresh fruits of all kinds, pastries, bagels, coffee, and juice. You can ask her to make just about anything: eggs, French toast, pancakes...(the blueberry pancakes were especially good). We enjoyed chatting with the other guests but if you prefer to dine alone, you can sit on the front porch. Brian, the proprietor, is a wealth of local knowledge and can direct you anywhere you want to go. If you have the chance, walk across the street and down to the water to watch beautiful sunsets!

"Old England in New England"

A beautiful house in a quiet location but in easy reach of all of the Newport attractions. It was like staying in a small stately home, with a beautiful table full of delightful food for breakfast. I felt as if I was living a Downton Abbey experience .

This is a beautiful Victorian with a lovely host. Far exceeded my expectations and I will not only hope to come back, but will recommend it to my (grown) children.
