My wife and I are sitting in the departure room, ready to leave Kuredu today after an amazing 9 days experience staying in the Sangu Jacuzzi Water Villas.
We booked the resort approximately 3 months ago, this being our third time in the Maldives, but first time at this resort. When we initially booked, the online reviews looked good and we had good expectations for the island.
I’d like to say, we were both blown away by the island and would like to share some of our experiences with you, so you can also learn and have a fantastic time whilst you are here.
Firstly the staff. Having our meals primarily in the Sangu Restaurant you get issues a host for your time, ours was Kirti. She was amazing. Whether we rocked up for breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, we were always welcomed with a warm smile and nothing was too much for her to arrange. Noticeable team members were also Nino and Kiron, the chefs who cooked such amazing food, especially on Christmas Eve.
Having heard about the Christmas Eve feast from many of the other guests, explaining about what a spectacular event it was, we were not disappointed at all. Imagine gluttony and you would have an idea of the scale and size of what was on offer. You could have Sushi, Roasts, Pasta, Fish, Tandoori, Salads, cakes, fruit, juices, drinks, etc. The entire Sangu Restaurant was a spectacular extravaganza of celebration of food! To say we were blown away is a pure understatement!!
Then there are the many things you can participate in on the island, from golf, pickle ball, tennis, wind surfing, snorkeling, diving, sun bathing, pool, dancing, etc. The list truly goes on and on. We decided to have a relaxing break and spent quite a lot of the time sitting outside of our Beach Villa, number 144, which was situation perfectly between the Restaurant and Sandbar and the main Dock.
Deciding prior to arrival that we would like to try out the 5.8 underwater restaurant on the Hurawalhi island, was easy to arrange. A quick speed boat ride (7 mins) and you are there. If you have never tried such an event, then we can thoroughly recommend it. It’s not cheap ($700 for 2 people including wine pairing) but WOW, such an experience!
It would be wrong for us not to mention the doctors on the island. My wife was poorly upon arrival, chest infection of some sort, so we decided to go see the local doctor. Again, having to tackle this kind of thing whilst being abroad, you never really know what you are going to get. We queued for about 20 minutes and saw the doctor. He was very thorough, checking my wife’s health, offering antibiotics for her to recover. I was initially worried about the cost of these things, but that’s why we have insurance right? To give you an idea, for the consultation it was $60 plus whatever the medicine that was required. The antibiotics were $15. This will all be recovered back on the insurance. So if you happen to feel unwell, don’t be put off by the need to go see the doc!
Finally, we should talk about the snorkeling. We were informed to go snorkeling to the left side of the dock, near the red buoy as that apparently is where the turtles are. We took our go-pro and went into the sea from the beach. The coral near the island is pretty dead, with a lot of sea grass. However, this seagrass attracts turtles! There wasn’t a single trip where we didn’t see turtles. There are a LOT and I mean a LOT of turtles out there. We also saw Sharks, but they popped out of the gloom said hi, then vanished just as quick. There are loads of trigger fish (be careful of these, they are territorial) and many other varieties of marine life. The house reef from a fish perspective is pretty good.
To conclude, the price point of this holiday was perfect. From the UK we paid approximately £7.5k, with flights (economy) and an all inclusive AI package for the 9 nights. We thought this was very reasonable for what you get as a package deal and would thoroughly recommend Kuredu as a destination. We may even come back !!!
Hope this helps?
