The Courtland Hotel & Spa

Location great in heart of downtown Fort Scott. Walk to restaurants. Parking easy right out in front. We were visiting family and were able to hang out and chat in the lounge/living space at front of hotel for several hours in comfortable chairs around an antique'ish round table without disturbance. Friendly desk staff!

Small old style room with no frills and eclectic furnishings was expected from description/pictures on website. We were expecting a sort of double monastic cell and that's what we got. However, our room (Room 10) really needs another bedside table. Lighting was also dimmer than desired. Needed more counter space/table space near sink. I packed really light this trip but no room to put out my simple cosmetics, brush/comb, jewelry pouch, etc. Suggest management removes the fake flowers in vase and any other nicknacks so there is more space on the tables for folks to use.

Even cuter and more interesting than expected. Lovely staff.

This is a historic hotel just south of downtown Kansas City. It was easy to find and very appealing. It was like stepping back in time. It is filled with history and many antiques. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and surrounding buildings.

If you plan to visit Fort Scott, staying here is a must! Frank and Cheryl are the most polite, kind and hospitable people. The hotel was clean, charming and holds much history in its walls. The location is also right in downtown which was perfect. The room was homey and the overall vibe of my stay was relaxed and at ease. Highly recommend staying here if you want an authentic and comfortable experience in Fort Scott!

What an awesome place! I’m not sure if I’ll ever be back, but maybe I’ve found an excuse to visit now. Frank, the owner, text me first thing in the morning on the day of my arrival to ask if I needed anything. He greeted me upon arrival, showed me to my room and took the time to strike up conversation and talk to me about the things he thought I’d find interesting after he learned a little about my interests. The town itself is adorable, like something out of a hallmark movie. My work for the day was in Pleasanton, but I’d gladly drive the 28 minutes out of my way to stay there again!! If you’re going to visit, this is the place to stay!! Enjoy.

The hotel is an old Railroad hotel, which has been renovated. The beds were great and the hostess was a wonderful resource. The one downside was a stairway entry, but help carrying the luggage was available.

Great family owed historic hotel. The owners were friendly. The room was clean and we enjoyed our stay.
