Djibouti Palace Kempinski

The property is large and impressive, though a bit dated. The rooms are spacious, but many of the in-room facilities feel old—there are no USB charging points, no power sockets near the bedside, and the toiletries are presented in an old-fashioned way. There’s also no iron or ironing board in the room, though one can be provided upon request. The staff are polite and helpful. However, the restaurants and bars seem to be understaffed, so you can expect delays in taking orders, receiving food, or getting the bill. On the positive side, the hotel is very clean, just 20 minutes from the airport and about 10 minutes from the city center. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience.

Too little eating options and quality of food if stay for 2 weeks+. Some maintenance required, one of the cupboards beneath the TV in my room was broken.

The room was of generous size.

When they advertise "garden view" they mean backyard/parking lot view. When I asked if they could put me in a room with a nicer view, the gentleman at the front desk replied "we can, but it will cost you more". Also, make sure to tip the driver to the airport, otherwise he won't event get out of the car to open the trunk for you. Not what you would expect of a 5 star hotel. Another thing that threw me off was the fact that they were selling bluntly fake Rolexes and Omegas in one of the hotel shops. This being an international chain another standard was to be expected.

The location is excellent, close to the city while giving a feeling of being on holiday. Nice sea view, especially on low tide. Hotel personnel is very thoughtfull, friendly and helpfull.
