Quintinha Sao Joao Hotel & Spa

We've been regular visitors to Funchal for around 15 years now, and have always favoured Madeira's small luxury Quinta's, as we enjoy the high standards of personal service they provide. A few years ago, we had the very good fortune to be introduced to the Quintinha Sao João, by a senior member of another establishment, which had sadly gone into decline. We now spend 14 weeks of each year in this truly exceptional 42 room property. The building itself, the common parts, and the vast guest rooms, are all impeccably maintained and a pleasure to relax in, but the ingredient any true luxury hotel must have is truly exceptional staff and leadership. This delightful hotel has it all, every guest is a treasured visitor, and is always treated as such, from arrival at reception, to dining in the fine international restaurant, to relaxing over cocktails in the first class bar, this is truly five star hospitality at its very, very best. The property has two pools, a beautifully maintained garden of some two acres, a world class spa, a games room, and a huge underground car park. There's even a shuttle bus which travels between the hotel and city centre, although the delights of the Plaza mall, and the city's smartest shops and bars are just a 15 minute downhill stroll away. When sunning one's self by the outdoor pool, surrounded by ancient trees, in one of the nicest residential areas, and with the bustle of the vibrant city just a faint murmur in the background, you are transported from the city centre, to the countryside. I truly love it.

Another wonderful stay at this excellent hotel, where you are made to feel very special. We have stayed here many times over the years and have never been disappointed. The rooms and facilities are very good but it is the staff that make this hotel unique. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Everything, the quite big size room with a balcony, the view from the hotel is amazing, the cosy spa, the delirious food, we had 3 x breakfast and 2 x dinners, the staff is very kind and professional, our special thanks to Sara and Filipe.

Lovely hotel. Staff go out of their way to be helpful in a friendly non forced way. Restaurant food was great. Good choice and well presented. Would go back.

L’établissement est très agréable et proche de tout . Toute l’équipe est sympathique et à l’écoute . Le jardin est magnifique. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour.

Nous avions réservé une chambre avec balcon mais le bruit de ventilation perçu depuis celui-ci ne nous a pas permis d’en profiter beaucoup

Just arrived back home from this beautiful hotel and missing it already. This was my first visit to Madeira and was blown away not only with the island but this beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by Rosie and the reception staff who were so helpful and showed us to our room. Rosie was amazing she planned a weeks Itinerary for us to visit the island and also arranged transport which made our week so memorable and we visited some extraordinary places. We only stayed bed & breakfast but the breakfast was so delicious and catered for everyone. We had a lovely facial which was so relaxing and enjoyed several evenings in the hotel having cocktails and listening to a pianist which was beautiful. I would like to give special thanks to Rosie, and Lucas the taxi driver who looked after us so well, and all the staff who were so helpful and friendly, and can't do enough for you. I will certainly be coming back and thank you again xxxx
