Hôtel plein de charme. Jardin très appréciable. Bons équipements. Restaurant très bon. Personnel très sympathique,disponible et attentif. Le petit plus a été le dîner au jardin organisé par l'établissement. C'était un moment très convivial dans un cadre agréable, et l'occasion de goûter de bons plats traditionnels. Très bon séjour.

Nous avons juste regretté d'avoir la chambre collée au restaurant mais les horaires de celui-ci font que le bruit est limité. Et nous ne venons pas à Madère pour rester dans la chambre. Donc rien de grave. À part cela, tout était très bien.

Its a beautiful hotel our room was huge and very nicely decorated. The breakfast and dinner were of a very good standard and we attended a celebration of a saint whilst we where there and the event food and drinks were superb. The staff are fantastic, helpful and very friendly. I must note the stepping stones crossing the pool area are a nightmare and my wife suffered a fall which required hospital treatment. These must be addressed as a matter of urgency! we visited approaching five weeks ago and my wife is still struggling with the injuries sustained. Compounding this was no first aid kit of a suitable standard in reception the young man on reception didn't have a clue! Luckily another member of staff came to our aid with an assistant manager and they were fantastic!. Both pool areas need attention it lates the place down quite badly, saying that as I have said rest of the hotel first class, food great and staff brilliant.

This hotel is amazing breakfast is fantastic the staff are all so lovely ,nothing is too much trouble, they do special meals on a Wednesday, they do picnics,afternoon teas ,I've never been so looked after ,I loved every minute of my time at this hotel ,first time in Maderia and it won't be my last .It was my birthday while I was away and a cake and a bottle of wine arrived in my room ,what a wonderful surprise. Can't thank the staff enough for a fabulous holiday.

Good location, 15 minutes by walk from the centre. Good breakfast! Comfortable, large room. Nice atmosphere!

Air conditioning was not working properly, every time I wanted to put it on I had to call the reception to make it centrally and set the right temperature. They were not able to fix it during our stay of 5 days there.

Excellent hotel in a beautiful island. Comfortable, friendly staff, excellent service, good food, relaxing. Lovely garden for chilling.

This hotel is fabulous! It is unusual to get the whole package in a hotel, but here from reception, waiters, cleaners, bar staff, masseurs, gardeners, absolutely everyone, collectively, were the best we have ever come across. Friendly, polite, engaging in conversation and happy! Rooms were really good, large in size and very comfortable. Breakfast was an absolute delight, great choice on the buffet and from the kitchen. We also had a couple of evening meals here which were delicious and very well prepared and presented as were lunches in the bar. Entertainment very good and subtle! All in all we wish to congratulate all the staff here, keep up the good work!

This intimate 42 room five star hotel always provides us with everything we desire. Situated in a very pleasant residential area and set in 3 acres of elegant gardens with two swimming pools, stunning city views and a first class spa, it is just a 15 minute stroll from central Funchal's most elegant shopping area. The hotel's restaurant 'a Morgadinha' offers fine international dining, elegantly served each evening, and one of the very best breakfasts I have ever enjoyed each morning. There's also an excellent bar, with a beautiful outdoor area, which serves first class lunches, and snacks throughout the day. Guests arriving by car, have the use of a very large underground car park, and there's also a shuttle bus between the hotel and Funchal's vibrant centre. Staff throughout this property are truly exceptional, and can always be relied upon to take care of guests needs. Each guest here is known and addressed by name, and never considered to be just another room number. The building is quite beautiful to behold whilst the guest rooms are more than generous, nicely furnished and very well equipped. The reception staff are unfailingly helpful, always kind, and certainly the best we have ever experienced. All together then, perfection in a small luxury hotel.

I have been a regular visitor to the beautiful island of Madeira for some years now, and have always enjoyed staying in its historic capital, Funchal. My preference is for small luxury, five star properties, and indeed I tried several of these before finally, via a lucky introduction, I found myself a Madeiran home at the Quintinha Sao João. This truly beautiful 32 room property was built around 25 years ago within the grounds of the owner's historic home, and is therefore set in around three acres of a beautifully maintained city centre garden. This is full of carefully tended flowers, orchids, and graciously historic trees. The hotel's interior has been cleverly designed to provide a feeling of spaciousness to all of the common parts. These are furnished with carefully chosen antiques and are all flooded with light, giving guests the feeling of staying in a fine English country house. Guest rooms and suites are all vast and are luxuriously appointed. Staff throughout this hotel are, without exception, quite perfect. They are caring, attentive, and kind, and many have been in their roles since the property first opened. Whilst small, the hotel is totally self contained, providing guests with two swimming pools, a well equipped gym, a world class spa, a games room, a gourmet level restaurant which has an enviable reputation within the city, and a first class bar, which also serves lunches and snacks throughout the day. There's a vast underground car park for the use of guests, and whilst Funchal's excellent shopping centre is just a ten minute walk away, the hotel also provides a shuttle bus for the convenience of their guests. I spend around 14 weeks here annually, and as such I must mention the first class laundry and dry cleaning services.
