The Umstead Hotel and Spa

Excellent property!! Well appointed rooms with great amenities. Booking with Expedia gives the option to pay in cash. This is not so. You must have a credit card to pay; however, an exception was made for me. So FYI have your credit card handy. Other than that everything was superb!

The Umstead was beautiful andnthe customer sercice was excellent. My room wasnt as cool as if like itnro be when I slept, but beyond thay, everything was phenomenal. Jan, in reservations, is an absolute delight and the kindest person. I want to thank her especially for making my first night away from girls special. The spa and the room service was amazing.

Best hotel Ive staying in the USA. Definately a 5-6 establishment. Be sure to splurge on the spa, pool and herons restaruant if you stay here.

Dishonest staff, terrible service, uninviting rooms, a mediocre restaurant, a poorly managed bar, lousy upkeep, and a dull ambiance. We stayed at The Umstead Hotel ($800/night room), and the experience was far below what I expected for that price. The room was small and uncomfortable, and the balcony was no better—cramped and not conducive to relaxation. The service was abysmal. We had to wait an excessive amount of time just to get someone to take our order, and when they finally did, they refused to bring us coffee at certain tables. We waited forever for our food, which was frustrating and unacceptable. The restaurant was a letdown. The food okay, nothing special considering the high prices, but the desserts were terrible. Only the sundae was edible; any other dessert we tried tasted sour and bad. We ended up leaving most of them uneaten. The gallery was in terrible condition—dusty, dirty, with large cobwebs and bugs everywhere. It was unsettling, far from the clean, luxurious environment you'd expect. The bar experience was equally disappointing. We sat in the gallery of the bar and were completely unattended for over 90 min. When we finally decided to go inside to get a beer, they refused to serve us because they were closing. This was incredibly frustrating and not what you'd expect from a so-called luxury hotel. To add, I accidentally left a $40 charger in the room; after calling several times it was clear it was stolen and they don't keep track of their staff.

This was the best experience I have ever had at a hotel. The staff was top notch and their attention to service was incredible.

We always love our stays here and it was the perfect place to stay on the first night of our honeymoon. The staff were so kind in congratulating us and made our stay extra special!

SUPERB… best spa resort I’ve ever stayed at… the whole staff knew we were there for our anniversary and went out of their way to make the weekend special. It’s the attention to detail and the elegance of the hotel itself that make it so extraordinary. Herons restaurant serves Michelin star caliber food in a beautiful dining room… cannot rave enough about the food. Our Twins Falls Couples massage was incredible and the spa world class. I cannot recommend this place enough. Look no further… this is it!

Beautiful building. Beautiful room. The front desk receptionist was never there. Felt like a ghost town. We waited 15-20 minutes for a receptionist to show up upon check in. Another couple ahead of us was waiting before us and finally left the reception desk. We noticed the 4 days that we were there that the reception desk was MiA most of the time. The bell men were awkward and young. Had complimentary valet parking but bell men said that’s not a thing.

The Umstead Hotel is a 5-star hotel beyond compare. We stayed for a birthday and there was an amenity and birthday card in our room when we arrived. They specialize in exquisite service. The hotel and properties are both beautiful and immaculate. We love the pool and the spa is one of the best ever. We will return again!

I was more than surprised 😲. Everything was beyond expectations. Staff gets a grade 100, pool, dinning, restaurant, reception desk, concierge and the hostess! Dinner at the Herion was amazing and they explained every dish as well as accommodate some dietary restrictions. If you’re in the Raleigh area choose this hotel and spa. Except no substitute!!! You want be disappointed….
