die Anlage ist sehr schön! die Terrasse atemberaubend!

Im Zimmer selbst gibt es leider keine richtige Lampe – nur neun kleine Teelichter. Dadurch ist es abends komplett dunkel, und wir haben uns mehrfach irgendwo gestossen, weil man praktisch nichts sieht. Was jedoch absolut inakzeptabel war: Der Mann, der unser Gepäck trug (der Träger mit Glatze bzw. sehr kurzen Haaren), hat uns extrem unfreundlich angeschnauzt und uns bei der Abreise sogar hinterhergerufen und beleidigt. So ein Verhalten geht überhaupt nicht – schon gar nicht in einem Hotel dieser Preisklasse und Kategorie. In einem 5-Sterne-Hotel erwarte ich Respekt, Professionalität und Höflichkeit. Der Grund für seine Aggression war, dass wir ihm kein Trinkgeld geben konnten. Wir wurden jedoch am Vorabend von der korrupten Polizei ausgeraubt und hatten schlicht kein Bargeld mehr bei uns. (Wichtiger Hinweis für andere Reisende: Die Strecke zwischen Bacalar und Tulum ist leider bekannt für korrupte Polizeikontrollen. Bitte vorsichtig sein.)

A lot of the glowing reviews here seem to be from people who came to Azulik, took three photos for Instagram, and left. As actual guests, staying in an actual room, with actual expectations, our experience was… let’s call it “educational.” Construction: From 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM every single day (yes, weekends too), the room next to us was a full-blown construction zone. If you sat on the terrace for more than five minutes, congratulations — you were now dust-seasoned. I get that the whole place is handmade and needs constant maintenance, but maybe don’t rent out the rooms next to the hammering? Our terrace was basically a museum exhibit: “The Terrace You Cannot Use.” Included activities that… were not included: All the meditation and wellness experiences we looked forward to? Canceled. The one person who runs all of it was “on vacation.” At $500 per night, maybe have a backup plan? Or at least a YouTube playlist? Nudity: The open shower thing didn’t bother us — it’s in the pictures, and the beach is clothing-optional anyway. But during our stay we saw multiple random naked people from pathways and even from our terrace. Honestly, at some point it felt like part of the package. Not judging — just letting future guests know the surprise cameos are real. Toilet situation: Not flushing toilet paper is in the FAQ. For us, not the end of the world. But if you prefer not to smell your partner’s “essence” gently drifting through your expensive eco-villa… maybe reconsider. Housekeeping adventures: The bathrobes in our room had stains. We asked for new ones. The new ones also had stains. Day two, housekeeping cleaned our room — and somehow removed all our hand towels and replaced them with… nothing. At this point everything became so absurd it was almost funny. Like the universe was running a prank show titled: “How Much Will They Tolerate For $500 a Night?” Staff: Restaurants → amazing. Bellman → super nice. Maintenance → great (and visited us a lot). Hostess → limited English, didn’t know what was included in our package, and generally seemed confused that we were asking for things the hotel advertises. Trash & “artistic” debris: While sitting in the outdoor bathtub enjoying the view, you also get a lovely view of empty beer cans and assorted garbage tossed under the structures. But hey — just because former guests threw their trash everywhere doesn’t mean maintenance needs to clean it up, right? They didn’t drink that beer in the first place. The property has a decent amount of “we used to care” energy. Beautiful architecture and design, but underneath the walkways and between the rooms you’ll find random clutter, stash piles, and leftovers. It genuinely feels like someone pressed pause on upkeep about two years ago. Bottom line: Azulik has an incredible concept. The place could be magical. Maybe it was magical. But right now, it’s more like: “Luxury hotel meets accidental comedy.” If you don’t mind construction, dust, surprise nudity, stained robes, and the occasional eau-de-partner… you’ll have a great time. Otherwise, maybe not.

The balcony and baths were amazing, the rural nature of the property and the craftsmanship were so impressive. The location was good and the views were stunning.

The lack of privacy especially in the bedrooms, people could see in from every angle. The lack of lighting in the bedroom was unbearable. The hotel boasts an eco ethos and claims to light candles in every bedroom at sundown, however this never happened and we were left in the dark calling for candles almost every night. The toilet barely had a door and did not flush. Therefore had to use the hotel public toilets.

Everything was perfect from start to finish! Every little detail was amazing—the staff, the atmosphere, and the peaceful surroundings. It was exactly what my husband and I needed for our honeymoon, just the two of us. The place was calm, romantic, and truly unforgettable. We can’t wait to come back!
