Sprowston Manor Hotel, Spa & Golf

Hotel was clean and well maintained. Reception staff were polite, welcoming and very helpful. The waiting staff at breakfast worked hard to keep things flowing, there were always clean tables available and a good selection of food. Unfortunately one younger waitress was quite rude to us and other guests because we mistakenly used the wrong door to enter the buffet area...maybe a clearer no entry sign would help and perhaps the young blonde seever would benefit from a tutorial on customer service and basic manners.

Smal andl very hot room...bathroom was tired. The bedding was strange...two thin duvets one to lay on and one to cover...but no sheet and the bottom duvet kept sliding off the base...just a weird set up really, tried to get in bed under both duvets but was bare mattress underneath? So the duvet was the sheet? ...but was warm enough once id pulled both duvets up to meet the pillows...and the 2 pillows were thin so i had to collect extras from the hotel reception. Sprowston Manor is a large, sprawling hotel based on the old manor house. Rooms are comfortable and our suite was spacious. Breakfast was good, we did not have dinner. Swimming pool was a good size.

Only 1 pillow per person in the room which we only spotted at bedtime which was too late to get dressed and ask for more. Have stayed in many hotels and this was the first that only has 1 pillow each.

The location was convenient for exploring both the town and the surrounding countryside. The room was spacious, and the pool area looked pleasant.

There was no continental breakfast option, which was disappointing. The cooked breakfast was fine in principle, but it had clearly been sitting under the heat lamps for some time and was very dry. The hash browns, in particular, could probably have been repurposed as building materials. The coffee machine was also rather temperamental. You need to be careful where you place your cup, as positioning it too close to the machine can cause hot liquid to spill across the table. This happened to me, and the area around the machine appeared to require regular cleaning. The room itself was spacious, but there was no air conditioning. When we opened the window, there were a number of dead flies on the outside windowsill, which reinforced the impression that some of the smaller details had been overlooked. The fridge was completely empty, with no bottled water provided, and was surprisingly noisy considering it contained nothing. The pool looked lovely, but we were unable to use it because it closes at 7pm (which entirely on us). This rules out an evening or post-dinner swim, which was a shame (it'd be great if it opened even an hour or two later) There is also a lovely piano in the foyer, but the middle D key did not work. At one point, there was an empty cigarette packet left on a coffee table near reception. Overall, the hotel has a lot of potential, but the small details need more attention. It may once have felt like a five-star hotel, and with some care it could feel like one again.
