The Essex Golf and Country Club

The hotel it self is in amazing grounds. But the actual hotel is very dated. The rooms need to be updated. Staff were very friendly.

Left Expensive phone charger in room rang to ask for it back apparently their staff have sticky fingers as it was not lost it was plugged in next to bed rang as soon as we left then again a day after terrible service no one even called us back

Stayed with a group for a craft weekend. Event room good after getting the heating sorted, we were sitting in coats and gloves! Need to have bin at refreshment station. Staff need to clear used crockery more often. Bedroom very comfortable although the bed is very firm. It’s has all been recently redecorated, has been done well. My hairdryer wasn’t working, reported it to staff. Some of our group were disturbed by other inconsiderate guests partying in their bedrooms. My only concern, the hotel part is not secure. The doors into the building have absolutely no security. Anyone can walk into the building. Drinks expensive £21 for a 175 and 250ml glasses of wine. No bar price list.

The room were clean, and nicely decorated. But the walls are thin and you can hear everything in neighbours rooms, woken up at midnight by neighbours passion. Breakfast buffet was adequate but nothing special. Service was similar, although staff seemed to be complaining alot, which is not great in front of customers. Evening meals were pretty good and reasonable vfm.

Upon first glance the room seemed nice and clean, very spacious too, also The bathroom was nice and tidy. A few things started to turn up that wasn’t how I’d hope a room would be, listed below are what we experienced: 1. We started to run a bath, and once the bath water was shut off we noticed the water was starting to drain(even though the plug was pressed down). It would not stay full, it just kept draining. Upon closer inspection it appears the plug was missing some sort of washer to stop the water draining out. 2. The walls are super thin! Like crazy thin, I could hear the people next door as clear as day and I’m sure they could probably say the exact same about how thin the walls were. 3. The door to our room seemed to have a large gap between the door and the floor of the room. This was letting in a lot of light and also made me uncomfortable as you could easily fit a small hand under the gap. 4. The bed we were expecting to arrive to was a king size bed. However we had two single beds put together. Whilst this isn’t the end of the world, it was very uncomfortable and irritating as my wife kept finding herself slipping between the two. It’s a shame as upon pulling up I had high hopes as the surrounding grounds looked lovely and secluded. We just didn’t get much rest and unfortunately would not recommend a deluxe double room just down to the noise and the bed situation mostly.

Really good for the price, booked one of the deluxe rooms mid week. Big showers big rooms, new enough TVs, access to the gym and swimming pool. Had a meal at the restaurant which was nice too. There was some kids running about on the halls but it stopped early enough.
