Beautiful grounds. Delicious dinner. Breakfast was disappointing. No landline in room, must go outside to use hotel phone. Although I had a cell phone, connectivity was challenging

"Avoid room 212"

8.0

Love the Peaks of Otter Lodge BUT this year (2025) my room (212) had a hard wired unit on the wall above the TV that had an intense blue light which illuminated the entire room all night, preventing decent sleep. (I am used to a very dark room which in the past I always have had.) Room 212, unfortunately, was assigned to me twice during my visits this summer. I should have refused the room the second time, but tried covering it with a hand towel, which reduced the intensity of the light only slightly. Complaints to the desk elicited staff comments such as: "We always get complaints about that light in that room." and "We cannot cover it or move it because it would void the WiFi warranty." Nonsense. I tried to access WiFi in that room each time I visited but could only do so in the dining room. Whatever it is should be removed and placed somewhere to conceal that light.

The view, the view , the view. Walk along the lake was wonderful and so thrilled that it is dog friendly. So few lovely places are.

I have never had such an awful experience at a hotel in my life. The Peaks of Otter Hotel was completely unacceptable. Our room was infested with bed bugs AND fleas – an absolute health hazard. We woke up with multiple bites, and upon closer inspection, we saw the bugs crawling on the mattress and headboard. It was beyond disgusting. When we reported the issue, the response from staff was shockingly inadequate. There was no urgency, no real apology, and no offer to compensate us for the horrible situation. To make matters worse, the staff was rude and awful to us when we asked about a refund, which is completely unacceptable given the circumstances. This level of negligence is inexcusable, especially for a property that charges these rates and claims to provide a quality experience. For your own health and safety, avoid this hotel at all costs. I will be contacting the local health department to file a formal complaint because this is a serious sanitation problem. Do not risk bringing bed bugs or fleas home from this place.

"Updated Lodge"

10.0

The lodge has been remodeled and is now open. It is a jewel on the parkway. The view is spectacular. There are trails to walk, around the lake, and to Johnson Farm. Peaks of Otter lodge is a peaceful, old school place to relax and take in nature. There is a fire pit and you can catch and release fish. Top notch stay!

My wife and I are vegans. We were very surprised that our choices were so limited in the restaurant. We did enjoy our stay.

Location, location, location! The grounds were beautiful. It was so peaceful. The lodge itself is in desperate need of upgrades. There is no WiFi except in the main building (restaurant). For the price, I expected a few more amenities. But overall the room was clean and the location is lovely.

"Wonderful meal and marvelous view"

8.0

We had heard the restaurant recently changed chefs so we came with some concerns as to what we might find. Needless to worry! The quinoa vegetable roasted tray could be among the ten best meals I have ever had and probably the best of Virginia! Service was prompt and attentive the wine list is a bit stark but has most choices represented ( the Malbec was a treat) We were not staying at the Lodge and so had to drive through the hills to get there. I recommend planning on making the trek with daylight if possible, although at 8 PM on a Tuesday there was no traffic to fight. NB our waitress told us that a new menu has been designed so there are changes ahead. The place seems a bit dated but this did not affect the meal at all
