"Closer"

4.0

Checking in it was very hard to understand the person on the desk. In the room the heating system in the bedroom was non functional which I reported immediately as the water being scalding. Since this was the weekend they had some hockey tournament there were boys all over the place but they were very respectful. That one elevator was so slow being we were on the 4th floor, walking the stairs was faster. The closeness to all the activities were a plus, but the place could use a good cleaning. Two nights was all we needed to attend a wedding.

The hotel was very nice and so was the staff. It was also very clean. The selection for breakfast could have been a little better and the fridge was a little small but other than that it was a very nice place.

"Two Reviews in One / Must Read"

8.0

We stayed at the Courtyard Lake Placid for a CAN/AM Hockey tournament. To the other reviewers, yes, we're one of those parents. TO EVERYONE - Hotel is a few minutes away from downtown Lake Placid. It is not walkable. The rooms are dark and felt dated. They could use some updating. The Bistro is limited (more about that below). There is only one working elevator and one hot tub. There is a very large common area with fireplace. The entire staff was great. TO THE OVERNIGHT STAYING GUESTS - The hotel is a Host Hotel for many CAN/AM Hockey tournaments which is held most weekends October through March. If you are not from a hockey tournament or happen to be staying during the weekend of a hockey tournament, you will be upset. Services are limited including the Bistro for breakfast and dinner. Hockey kids will be taking over the pool, common area and the one working elevator. During a hockey tournament weekend, the hotel caters to these groups as this is what is keeping the hotel running during the off season. Also keep in mind, many of the other hotels in the area are also host hotels for these tournaments. TO THE OVERNIGHT GUESTS STAYING FOR HOCKEY TOURNAMENT - This is one of the many hotel options for the CAN/AM Hockey tournaments. Rooms were ready as our guests started to arrive (Noon). Check in was easy. Staff again was great. The provided food for the CAN/AM Package wasn't very good. Dinners included Hot Dogs, Tacos, Chicken Fingers and Cheeseburger Sliders. You may be saying to yourself, my kids love these things. Yes, the kids didn't mind but that's also what the adults were served. Breakfast was repetitive and the same three items, Scrambled eggs, home fries and sausage patties...every....single...day... After night one, we knew what to expect and decided to eat our meals elsewhere. After talking to other hockey parents staying at different hotels, it seems many were disapointed with the food they were provided. The Bistro (Breakfast or Dinner) was not open if you wanted a "fresh cooked meal" even if you wanted to pay for it. Since the hotel caters to these tournaments, the kids are allowed to do whatever they want. Knee Hockey is encouraged in the hallways or the provided meeting room. Kids can run throughout the hotel without being yelled at. And parents have a very large common area to enjoy themselves. You're also allowed to bring your own adult beverages which I know some places frown upon. I am sure CAN/AM does pay alot of money to host our teams and it seems the hockey teams get better treatment than the paying overnight guests. There is a fire pit in the back which you can ask to be turned on. We brought supplies for smores and that was an activity the kids enjoyed together. All in all, it is a great hotel for a hockey tournament, but keep in mind, the food provided was not great.

"Terrible experience"

2.0

Not the quality you would expect from a Marriott - run down, dirty, elevator out of order for months. In addition when we visited large groups of teenagers that were part of a team were running around the hotel unsupervised. They were knocking on other guest doors until late at night, running through the halls yelling and swearing, and banging on adjoining walls. While I would normally expect parents to curtail this type of behaviour I was also very disappointed by the lack of action on behalf of hotel staff. I have stayed at many hotels with teams/schools of children and teenagers in the past, and it has never before been a problem; children should not be allowed to run around a hotel in large groups unsupervised.

"Worst Hotel Experience"

2.0

This was easily the worst hotel experience I have ever had (and I’ve had many). Our entire family week end getaway was ruined. There were hockey teams staying at his hotel for the same week end we were and we were not forewarned by the hotel. The hockey team literally had a run of the entire hotel with absolutely no management by the parents, coaches or hotel itself. The hockey kids played continually on the elevator such that it was unaccessible to other hotel guests. The hockey kids continually ran through the corridors knocking on other guests doors all day and until 10 at night. No amount of discussion on our part with the kids, parents or hotel staff changed anything. In fact because we did complain our room, and the two rooms of our adult children, were targeted. We were pushed, sworn at and bullied by these hockey players. We finally left during the 2nd night as it became unbearable. If there was a lower rating than 1 I would use it. While I feel it was the responsibility of the parents and coaches to manage their kids, when it became clear they weren’t prepared to I expected the hotel management to step in. Which they did not!

"Perfectly pleasant accommodations"

6.0

Very large room with king bed and whirlpool bath in the corner. Clean, and nice greeting at reception. Perfectly acceptable accommodations and we would stay here again. The decor is fine, but not the latest and greatest magazine-worthy offering.

"Decent for the price paid"

6.0

Hotel is looking old and worn out. Walls are paper thin. Bring earplugs! Service is ok - about what you would expect from a Courtyard. Disappointed that breakfast wasn’t included though. The location isn’t exactly central but it’s about a 5 minute drive into town.

"Terrific staff - large rooms - furnings getting worn around the edges"

8.0

We've stayed at this hotel about half a dozen times. This stay in September 2024 was our first time back since 2020. The rooms are nice and spacious. The staff, especially Felipe, Vanessa, and Trace, were super terrific and helpful. There was a difficult situation during our stay, but Trace addressed it the next morning and made us feel more than considered for our difficulty. Most hotel staff know how to be polite - Trace, Felipe, and Vanessa, though, know how to be truly hospitable. Hospitality is a quality that increasingly lacks in a hotel (and restaurants), where I more often (especially since Covid) feel like the owner's meal ticket rather than a guest who is there for friendliness, a nice room, AND hospitality. The only negative is that the hotel is in serious need of a refresh. Furnishings are getting worn around the edges and need some attention. We stayed for almost a week and would have enjoyed it more if the room were kept up a little better. For a weekend or so, though, it would be just fine. With a refresh, I'd happily stay here for a week again.
